SYSTEM BENEFITS
The Komatsu KMAX system is designed
to be the most cost effective, productive and
worry-free G.E.T. system available today.
EXTREME SERVICE
Designed for peak performance
in virtually all applications, from loose
dirt to crushed concrete and other
highly abrasive materials.

PATENTED
Hensley has put years of research and experience
into the design of KMAX, a revolutionary, new
G.E.T. system. The result is the creation of
an extremely unique system, protected
by patent #6,393,739B1, granted by
the United States Patent and
Trademark Office.

REVERSIBLE
The system is designed
to allow for the ‘flipping’ of the
teeth. This may not be necessary in
all applications but sometimes working
methods and conditions cause unbalanced
wear. A reversible system can extend the life
of your G.E.T. in these applications.
REUSABLE FASTENER
This unique fastener is designed
to be unlocked with just a 90O turn of a
socket. It is simple, functional and most
important - reusable! Save time and money
with the KMAX fastening system.

COMPUTER SHAPED
Hensley used state-of-the-art computer
software to design a system that
gives you maximum penetration,
greater production strength
and longer system life. The
system shape promotes smooth
flow of material over the tooth/adapter.

SYSTEM VALUE
The design of the Komatsu KMAX system combined with the quality of Hensley
steel will maximize your production and minimize your downtime. You will find
the KMAX system offers the best G.E.T. value available today!

• Designed for virtually any application.

• Strong nose design versus other systems.
• Teeth can be changed quickly.
• Low throw away ratio.
• Unique reusable fastener.
• Superior heat treating and through hardness.
• Better penetration and cycle times.
• Your best overall G.E.T. value!
DESIGNED FOR STRENGTH WHERE IT COUNTS

VS.

22% STRONGER

Hensley 330 Parabolic® nose KMAXTM K25 nose

Nose strength is critical to the longevity of any G.E.T. system, and the KMAX nose is stronger! The smooth shape and rounded
design of the nose helps reduce areas of stress concentration under load. In fact, the FEA analysis you see here confirms that
the KMAX 25 nose is 22% stronger than the X330 nose.

What does that mean? It means, that this new KMAX 25 nose is stronger than a comparable system that has been used
confidently by Original Equipment Manufacturers, Bucket Manufacturers and End Users for over 15 years. In the business of
G.E.T., stronger is better, and KMAX is stronger!

TOOTH CONSUMPTION
The goal in designing a superior tooth is to maximize tooth strength without adding unnecessary bulk.
This minimizes the amount of material that is “thrown away” when the tooth is completely consumed.
A Tooth Consumption Ratio is measured as the percentage of available wear material
compared to the whole. In general, the greater the percentage, the greater
the value.

Example: 40% Tooth Consumption Ratio

A 25 lbs. tooth with a 40% consumption ratio

would provide 10 lbs. of wear material versus
15 lbs. of material that is scrapped when the tooth
is worn out. As the percentage increases, the amount
of material scrapped decreases. It is critical however that the
tooth design allows the tooth to remain sharp and penetrate. A tooth
pocket with a block on the end would theoretically offer a high consumption rate,
but obviously the tooth would not dig. NEW TOOTH

Hensley has worked diligently to design tooth shapes that maximize consumption WORN TOOTH
ratios as well as product performance. The graphic you see to the right is of a
KMAX RC style tooth which offers a consumption ratio of 60% and performance K40RC TOOTH
that is second to none! Original Weight : 27.7 lbs.
Worn Weight: 11.0 lbs.

60% CONSUMABLE STEEL!

HARDNESS AND
HEAT TREATMENT

THE HEAT TREA

HEAT TMENT PROCES
TREATMENT PROCESSS
Through hardening is critical for tooth life!
Many companies offer teeth that are hard on the
outside but, because of inferior heat treatment,
the teeth are soft on the inside. This leads to
premature wear and added cost.
All Komatsu KMAX teeth are heat
treated to critical standards to assure
the teeth meet specifications both
at the surface as well as at the
core of the product.
The hardness specification
for this product ranges from PENETRATION AND
477 - 532 Brinell.
CYCLE TIMES

The streamlined design of the

entire system combined with
the Self-Sharpening teeth
helps increase penetration.
This reduces the stress on
the machine by requiring less
hydraulic pressure which reduces
the cycle time, improves fuel
consumption and increases
production!

FAST CHANGE-OUTS
This system is designed for quick installation or replacement with minimal
hammering. Teeth can be changed in minutes. Simply use a socket to
unlock the fastener, put on a new tooth and go back to work.

“...we changed six teeth in

about 15 minutes. That’s
fast...that’s real fast.”

FOR EXCA
EXCAVATORS
CAV
Series recommendations are based on the operating weight of the machine
and whether the machine will be used in STANDARD/HEAVY DUTY or
EXTREME SERVICE applications. Choose the application based on the
majority of the machine work. Always select the more severe application if the
percentage of work approaches 50%.
APPLICATION TYPES
STANDARD/HEAVY DUTY - The load on the machine ranges from very little to
moderate with some limited, “high load” use. Materials range from light and loose,
well-shot, fracturable, to some medium even heavy shot materials that break up into
manageable sizes when excavated. Large slabs of rock do not fit in this category.
EXTREME SERVICE - The load on the machine is high, nearing the maximum
capabilities of the machine. Materials are heavy unshot rock or slabs that require the
full force of the machine to break out.

Be realistic when selecting the appropriate series for your machine. Selecting a series
that is too small for the machine and application will very likely result in product failure,
which will reduce your production and increase your costs. If your machine is specifically
designed for more severe work, always go with the EXTREME SERVICE recommendation.
