ICT Integration in Ormoc Health Services

The document discusses how the Ormoc City Health Office uses information and communication technology (ICT) like Facebook to provide health services to citizens. They pair online services with physical plans for those without internet access. The head of the office believes ICT improves information dissemination and access to care, though it increases costs initially. Community nurses' roles are enhanced, not changed, by ICT as they remain providers working with patients.

Van: Regarding the use of internet connection po sir sa pagdeliver ng health services, is it evident na sa

ating city health office?

Joshua: Yes po, currently we are adopting the use of computer and internet even before this pandemic
times. Since bomoboom ung kalagayan ng Ormoc, our office is also trying its best to adopt sa
makabagong mga teknolohiya especially in terms of providing health care to the people.

Van : Ah yes sir that’s really good to hear naman po. Oo it’s true that Ormoc city is indeed growing
economically so the demands of the people are starting to grow also and of course one of them is health
care. Matanong ko lang sir, how exactly do you make use of ICT or information and communication
technology sa pag provide ng health services to the people here in Ormoc?

Joshua: That’s a really good question ano, um. Isa sa mga pinakaginagamit namin na form of ICT is
through the use of social media. Facebook to be specific. We constantly post all of our updates there
since Ormoc City is not really that problematic when it comes to internet connection, majority of the
people can be updated through facebook. Well of course, there are others who cannot access facebook
or is having a hard time with it, that’s where our physical implementation comes in. In order to cater
every Ormocanons, we are pairing our eHealth services with an actual and tangible plan para dun sa
mga taong di gaanong connected sa internet.

Van: Prior to this interview po sir, I have contacted a friend of mine who is currently working in the IT
department sa city hall so I got a little background po regarding how your office and theirs are in
constant interaction to provide quality health services for the people here in Ormoc. In your opinion po
sir, how does the use of ICT affect the overall function of the City Health Office?

Joshua: Yes, that’s true, we are in constant interaction tagala with the IT department since they are the
ones who are doing the ICT stuffs. Since we’ve decided to adopt ICT in our workplace, I really saw the
changes and improvements that it brought to us. Isa sa mga notable na improvement na napansin ko is
ang efficiency of information dissemination. We are only few clicks away from our stakeholders. It is a
very notable improvement in our end because one of our goals is to ensure quality care to the people.
Kung kaya na macater tanan problem, then why not? That’s why advantageous talaga ang pag gamit ng
ICT. The only disadvantaged that we’ve encountered so far is that there are times na nagloloko ung
internet connection. But nonetheless, di gaanong nakakaaffect ung internet connection sa quality ng
service na binibigay naming for the people since as I have told you kanina, our ICT integration is only a
part of our implementation strategy, again we are pairing it with actual and tangible plans para
maganda talaga expected outcome namin.
Van: Okay po sir your answers are duly noted. Next question po, Is the implementation of ICT cost
effective sir ?

Joshua: you know, in the government sector, every offices have different budgets allocated for that
particular year, although we had an increased expenses sa pag implement ng ICT but I believe in the long
run, it will save us a lot of time and energy especially sa pag reach out sa mga Ormocanons that are far
from the city proper. Some consultations are also done online so I believe that we are still on the early
stage of ICT implementation. I know that as long as we’ll get used to it, We will be able to level up our
ICT integration to the delivery of health care.

Van : That’s an interesting thing to know po sir. I am also in favor of ICT integration since our world is
not getting any younger, it would really be the best to adopt with the changes especially in the
technological aspect. So my last question po sir is, It is said that Community Health Nurse’s role are
significantly diversified by eHealth. What are our roles as CHNurses in this regard sIR?

Joshua: I believe that our roles as Community nurses are not really changed just because we are utilizing
ICT as another medium. Yes I get your point that there may be changes in our delivery of care since we
are adopting technology as part of our services but nonetheless, our roles as Community nurses are not
really affected. I think the best way that I could describe it is that our roles are enhanced with the use of
ICT. You are still a nurse either in front of the camera or the person. Basically, we’re the same provider,
a partner with our patient in attaining a common goal, and that is optimum health and wellness.
