Daylight Savings Time
Daylight savings time, also known as “DST” has some pros and cons, but today, we are
going to talk about the many pros about it, along with a couple negatives so you can be informed
about them. The main topics we will be focusing on, is the safety of daylight savings, how you
get more time during the day, and the safety for many pedestrians. The two topics I will be
explaining today, which are the safety of daylight savings and the safety for other pedestrians,
are somewhat similar, but one has to do with being safe for yourself and the other one is being
safe for other people and knowing what to look out for at certain times and situations. I also
decided to explain the negatives of DTS because they should know about them when daylight
savings happens because it could help them not ruin their mental and physical health.
My first blueprint is the safety of daylight savings time. Studies have shown that many
robberies have happened at night, right when it gets dark(brown). Daylight savings helps make
people who work at night, like simple little stores, malls, and convenient stores safer because
many crimes and robberies happen at nighttime, so if it isn’t as dark out more people will be a lot
safer than in the dark. DTS saves the numbers from increasing for workplace injuries. Many
researchers showed how big the numbers are for how many people miss work because they were
injured in their workplace. People get easily distracted and tired at nighttime while driving, so
DTS makes it so it doesn’t get dark until almost nine instead of five like it is right now. Candles
cause many fires so when it’s not dark people tend to not have to like candles for in the dark.
Studies show that when you are in poor lighting it messes with you and people struggle to work
in it(avis). So, for example, if you are in a poor lighted classroom like the lights are dim, and you
can’t see that well, or you aren’t able to pay attention, it messes with your brain and causes you
to struggle to focus.
This second blueprint focuses on having more time during the day, and by that, I mean
when the sun is still out, or somewhat out until about nine, everyone can have more fun and do
more activities outside. When it gets dark citizens tend to light candles, so they could save more
money by burning less candles if it’s light outside. Some people might like to spend money on
candles and have them, but mainly people get them for in the dark so they can see better at
nighttime. It’s also proven that DTS saves energy which is good for everyone's brain and
focusing on school(avis). Losing sleep affects people and how they are focusing during the day,
so DTS gives everyone that extra hour to be able to focus more (bringing in the sunlight).
Americans enjoy doing activities during the day, so when people can be outside longer, it shows
how much happier people are. In the morning when it still tends to be dark outside it’s harder for
kids to stay awake and focus, so DTS helps with being light in the morning.
There are also some negatives to daylight savings that I will explain because I feel like
even though people know the positives to it people should understand the downside of it too.
Daylight savings can cause mental and physical health issues. Even though it’s one hour of sleep
it can affect people and how they sleep and when they do. Studies have shown that daylight
savings can make people sick because our body has a rhythm of when to go to bed and wake up
and DTS makes peoples bodies different. Your energy during daylight savings also goes down
which makes people more tired during the day and not as happy. The negatives aren’t too bad but
it’s not good for your body or your health. The being tired can help If you go to bed early the
night of daylight savings, which could help your mental health more. It could be hard to go to
bed early, but it will be better for your brain and your body.
The last paragraph covers my last blueprint, about safety for pedestrians I already talked
about safety for Indvidual's, but the paragraph is mainly about keeping others safe. Studies have
shown that DTS helps with car accidents and people getting hit by a car at nighttime (daylight
saving). When it is daylight for longer hours for people that walk places and do things near the
road, this make it safer for them when it isn’t dark out and reduces the chance of them being hit
by a car. Especially when people are crossing the road at night, sometimes it’s hard for people
driving to see the person walking and it makes it worse if their wearing dark clothes. It’s not
good for your brain, or body to not get enough sleep at night and even just the one hour sleep
you get from DTS has a big impact on your brain(avis).
Overall daylight savings time has a big impact on a lot of things like I explained. Many
people focus on the good things of daylight savings than the bad. I think there are a lot more
good things about it than bad, but they can impact you in a bunch of different ways. People
should focus on the good because there are certain ways to help your body and your overall
health. DTS can make you safer, and you can even be more aware of other pedestrians around
you when you’re out at night or even during the day. I hope this information helped people learn
all about daylight savings time, so that this will potentially help you or other people in certain
situations.
