1.INTRODUCTION ABOUT DMRC
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. Abbreviated to DMRC, is a
centre-state public sector company that operates the Delhi metro. The
DMRC was founded on 3 May 1995 at New Delhi, India by E.
Sreedharan, serving as the first managing director E. Sreedharan handed
over charge as MD of DMRC to Magnu Singh on 31 December 2011.
The DMRC is also involved in the planning and implementation of
metro rail, mono rail and high speed rail project in India and abroad.
DMRC has served as the project consultant and has prepared detailed
project report (DPR) for every metro and mono rail project in India,
except the Kolkata Metro and Chennai MRTS. The DMRC has been
certified by the United Nations as the first metro rail and rail-based
system in the world to get “carbon credits for reducing greenhouse gas
emissions” and helping in reducing pollution level in the city.

About Phase III

The deadline for completion of Phase 3 was 2016. Out of 2 new lines
and 11 route extensions proposed for Phase III, cabinet approvals have
been obtained for 2 new lines and 10 route extensions totalling 167.27
km, with an estimated cost of ₹350 billion. Construction has already
begun on many of these. In April 2014 the Delhi Lt. Governor gave
approval for two further extensions.
Among the lines shown below, Brown Line (Noida-Greater Noida)
will be operated by an authority designated for the purpose by Noida
authorities, and will be owned by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Phase III will have 28 underground stations covering 41 km. More
than 20 tunnel boring machines are expected to be simultaneously used
during construction of Phase III.Delhi Metro is expecting a ridership of
4 million after completion of Phase III. DMRC has decided to use
communication based train control (CBTC) for signaling which will
allow trains to run at a short headway of 90 seconds. Keeping this in
mind and other constraints, DMRC changed its decision to build 9 car
long stations for new lines and instead opting for shorter stations which
can accommodate 6 car trains.
For the first time Delhi Metro will construct ring lines in Phase III. Till
Phase II, Delhi Metro focused on expanding the reach of metro and
thus built long radial lines. However, in Phase III, Delhi Metro is
aiming to interconnect existing lines by ring lines to improve
connectivity. This will not only help in reducing distances but will also
relieve radial lines of some congestion.

Key details about CC-04 ::

Client DMRC
Location Delhi
Contract Type Design and construction basis.
Contractor J.KUMAR CRTG(JV).
Completion 46 months (23 july 2012 ~ 30 july 2017)
period
Contract Value 375 crore
Scope of work Design and construction of
➢ tunnel between mayapuri and delhi cant by
shield TBM. (200m long)
➢ Interchange facilities between yellow and
pink line.
Built by CEC-CICI as part of contract CC-04 of the Phase 3 project, the
line’s tunnels from azadpur towards Majlis Park was stopped due to hard
rock that had prevented the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) from
advancing. 2 new TBMs leased from HCC-Samsung (previously used
for CC-34) have arrived at the Majlis Park shaft from where they where
commissioned in March to complete the balance (roughly 600m) of
tunneling work.

6.METHODS and TECHNIQUES USED

KEY POINTS ABOUT TUNNEL:- Tunnels are
constructed with the help of TBM (tunnel Boring
Machine)
• The type of tunnel is “twin tunnel”.
• Inner diameter of tunnel is 5.8m
• Outer diameter is 6.5m
• There are 6 segment key in one ring of
thickness 275mm and length 1.4m
• A cross passage is provided after every 200 rings for
emergency exit.
• The lowermost of the tunnel is 20m below the
ground surface.

• TUNNELBORING MACHINE(TBM)
A tunnel Boring machine also known as “mole“, is a machine
used to excavate tunnels with a circular cross section through
a variety of soil and rock strata. They can bore through
anything from hard rock to sand. Tunnel diameter can range
from a meter (done with microTBM) to 19.25 meter to date.

Fig: TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine)

Tunnel boring machine are used as an alternative to drilling and
blasting methods in rock and conventional “hand mining “in soil.
TBM have the advantages of limiting the disturbance to the
surrounding ground and produced a smooth tunnel wall. The major
disadvantage is the upfront cost. TBMs are expensive to construct,
and can be difficult to transport. However, as modern tunnels become
longer, the cost of tunnel boring machines versus drill and blast is
actually less.

• Hard rock TBM (shielded or open type) where used at the site.it
excavated rock with disc cutters mounted on cutter heads.
• it cuts the rock ,which is then transferred through openings in
cutter heads to a belt conveyer ,removing it outside by using muck
train.
• Rotating erector arm, gripper shoe places precast concrete
segments on the tunnel surface.
• Segments have annular grouting hole ,two dowels to attach them to
adjacent segment
• The last segment in each row is called key segment.

7.METHOD FOR CONCRETING.

Placing of concrete::
1. Concrete pump with pipeline is used for conveyance
of concrete to the pouring area.
2. Concrete for the slab is placed in approx. 400mm-
450mm thick layers each. Each layer is compacted
before the next layer is placed.
3. Concrete is carefully worked around all
reinforcement and embedded fixtures and corner of
formwork.
4. The top surface of the concrete is leveled with
aluminum box section of 3m long followed by steel
trowel to produce the required surface finish.
5. Concrete placing is uninterrupted until placing of a
section as defined by construction joints is
completed.
6.The concrete at the surface of cold joints is cleaned
with a high pressure air water jet before the
concrete achieves a primary set to provide an irregular
clean surface free from laitance. Prior to restarting
concreting, the surface will be wetted.

7.Maximum free fall of concrete will be limited to

1.5m.

8.The temperature of the concrete should not exceed

the limiting temperature
mentioned in the plan.

Fig::pouring of concrete
8.CURING OF CONCRETE

The following procedure will be followed in curing the slab

concrete:-
Horizontal Surface
As part of the slab is concreted up to final level including
final surface finishing, the finished surface will be covered
with hessian cloth.
The hessian will be kept permanently damp by periodical spray of water
through water hoses or by ponding arrangement in lieu of hessian cloth.
The curing will be continued for 14 days.

Vertical Surface
The curing of vertical surface of slab, walls or columns
will be continued covered with hessian cloth and kept
damp by periodical spray of water for 10 days.
9. Safety, Health, Environment (S.H.E.)
The term SHE stands for Safety Health Environment. It explains
about the different types of environment and health issue. EHS can
be described as the aspects of the human health and disease that are
determined by factors in the environment. It also refers to the theory
and practice of assessing and controlling factors in the environment
that can potentially affect health.General SHE rules are as follows:

• Smoking & Drinking is not allowed at construction site.

• Sleeping under a vehicle is not permitted.
• Don’t use shortcut to move one place to another place.
• Don’t throw any material to work place at construction site.
Always follow right and wrong rules.
• You should have full knowledge about the job.
• All personnel engaged for this job should wear safety helmet
conforming to Indian standard
• Safety shoe ought to be worn by all who ever enters the site.
• Appropriate hand Gloves will use for Material handling,
Welding, Grinding, Gas cutting, Chemical handling etc.
• Appropriate body protection like apron must be used by the
concern at site.
• Employees above 18yrs.
• Child labour is prohibited.
• Only competent personnel are authorized to erect the
scaffolds.
• Scaffold should be regularly checked.
