MCDONALDS
Whenever my family and I go out to dinner or bring something home to eat, my
sister always gets McDonalds. She is totally obsessed with it and it is virtually the only
thing she eats. Two girls, who commonly ate McDonalds, became overweight and filed a
lawsuit against McDonalds. My sister could be like these two teenagers and gain weight,
and might even end up like them!
In 1995 the wonderful McDonalds restaurant had their grand opening. They
were going to sell burgers, fries, and drinks. They decided to price their burgers at fifteen
cents, which was about a dollar less than their final price of 2011. After about thirty
years, this wonderful place would sell over fifty billion of those delicious hamburgers. By
1936 the amazing fast food restaurant would sell their billionth burger! When they
realized how successful they were going to be, more restaurants were made and built.
They decided to build their five-hundredth restaurant in 1936. A few years later, the
delicious store was approached by a television channel to advertize during the biggest
sporting event, the Super bowl. After the McDonald’s people said yes, they were
confident about their choice after the immediate increase in their sales! This major
increase was from the huge Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade they took part in and
because of their huge advertizing during the Super bowl.
To make their store even better, years later new additions were made and
invented. In the year 1979, they began selling the famous, “Happy Meals.” Onion
nuggets and the “Hula burger” were also tried, but they were not a success for
McDonalds. In 1963, their second most popular menu item was added. Chicken
6
Nuggets! Later, these stores were being protested against, and were losing customers
because of environmental concerns about their packaging. To make up for lost of buyers,
McDonalds’ were being opened in gas stations and Wal-Mart super stores. New items
still were being invented, like the “Arch Deluxe,” invented in 1966. This menu item was,
a quarter pound burger served with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a secret mustard sauce. It
was loved by thousands of people everywhere!
Sales were dropping; many customers were becoming mad about the amount of
fat and carbohydrates in McDonalds’ food! During the year 2002, two girls in their
teenage years filed a lawsuit against McDonalds’ for not telling the calories and fat
percentages. The lawsuit failed, but their sales were drastically down. McDonalds has a
huge network of over 300,000 and all of it was struggling. In 2003, a miracle occurred,
and sales were back up, and higher than ever! So later, to boost numbers even higher,
coffee drinks were added to the menu!
My sister has seen the effect of McDonalds on people. This successful and
awesome restaurant has gradually grown over years and now is one of the top places in
the world, but it can be harmful to people’s body condition, heath, and life. My sister has
seen that McDonalds can hurt her, and that she eats it too much. The past of the
McDonalds restaurant has shown her to cut down on her McDonald’s obsession which
can improve her health, body condition, and her entire life.
