Health Care is one of the basic needs and important requirements of the whole world humans, the
case study expedites the health care of Indian peoples who are suffering for best medical treatment.
According to Dr. C. J. Vetrievel Managing Director of Be Well hospital, India population contains 1.21
billion 73% resided towns and villages. 26.4% of its urban population living below the poverty lines.
65 million Indians are suffered from diabetics and another multiples disease.
Dr. C. J. Vetrievel started working with Apollo Hospital as Head of Operations, that time Apollo hospital
was one of the leading and most sought-after healthcare providers in the country. In 2005 Vetrievel
has been promoted as Chief Operating Officer of the project Division at Apollo Hospital. During his
tenure he observer that Apollo’s strong brand and the absence of multi-specialty hospital in smaller
town were driving this demand.
Vetrievel cam up with an idea to setting up a multi-specialty services provider hospital just not to
provide good service but also build financially sustainable business.
By 2009 Vetrievel quit Apollo Hospitals and decided to start out his own. After he left Apollo he
accepted another role of Director at Deepam Hospital. Deepam Hospital management have required
a Vetrievel to increase Deepam business expansion chain, but very soon he left the Deepam Hospital
due to ideology difference between the management.

Be Well Hospital
In March, 2016 Dr. C. J Vetrievel decided to make his own Hospitals, for this he meets with his old
fiend C. Lakshmanan and colleague from Apollo. C. Lakshmanan, a chartered accountant had two
decades of rich experience in senior position in healthcare finance.
Multiple Specialty and Hospital Operations
Dr. C. J Vetrivel introduced different types of specialty at Be Well Hospital, which were covered
gynecology, nephrology, orthopedics, ENT (ear nose and throat), pediatrics and urology, which were
complemented by general medicine and general and also provide limited services in cardiology,
neurology and oncology where they confined their scope and basic diagnosis.
Employees recruitment
Recruitment of employees centralized at Be Well for all the positions were conducted at the corporate
office, successful candidates were given appointments at their respective regional hospitals. Be Well
appointed most MBBS graduates with three or four years of experience, where fresh graduates gain
experienced before pursuing postgraduate specialization. Be Well also centralized the recruitment of
its nursing staff.
Challenges during recruitment
Be Well have critical challenge during recruitment of employees at Semi Urban location, where
management have adopted three strategies whereby it offered a superior designation, higher salary
and greater responsibility.
Training of Employees
After selection the employee, Be Well Management provided a good working environment of learning,
training and upgrade their skills for improvement and minimize gape between employees and
management for better understanding the work area.

Accommodation of Employees
Be well provides residential hostels to nurse’s staff and competitive salaries according to market rates.
Competitive salaries, residence, trainings all area parameters for employee retention and motivation.
Relationship with Customers
Be Well started promotional and a unique activity, free of cost basic life support program for local bus,
taxi and autorickshaw drivers. This program provides basic tips for saving lives in an emergency.
The hospital superintendent and duty doctors at each are tried to treat patients and their relatives
utmost care, which helped generate positive word-of-mouth. Of course, these conversation with both
the patient and their relatives that helps in past recovery.
Advertisement of Be Well Hospital
As per Be Well they spent much more cost on advertisement, on every Saturday of every month they
advertised in Tamil newspaper during the year 2015, 2016 but unfortunately Be Well realized that
there is no any positive advantage of this advertisement only expense increases INR 250 per month
after that they stopped advertising in newspaper. However fortnightly magazine had a times
approached Be Wells doctors for interviews on certain clinical condition. This helped in generating
indirect publicity for their hospitals as well. Be Wells started advertisement on Facebook page which
has led to some inquiries about the Puducherry hospital. These inquiries were typically from oversea
residents who had elderly parents living on their own in Puducherry.
Chain of Hospitals
Be Well reached at eight function hospitals which are fully functional and providing services to
patients, contribution in country financially, provides opportunities for new comers.
Competition with other brands
Be Wells mission “To provide quality services in a compassionate manner to underserved locations”
of the country was backed by a viable business model. Yet, even after four years of operation, it had
not been very successful in building a strong brand.

Over all Summary
Healthcare is the basic needs of humans to live healthy. The case study covered many aspects and
research on India healthcare hospitals. In India population is 1.2 billion which are very large population
and it is not possible to provide best healthcare to everyone by the government hospitals. India govt
hospitals have many issues, like overburden on doctors due to large numbers of patients, lack of
instruments and equipment’s and diagnosing tools, unprofessional doctors etc., Private hospitals are
the requirement to facilitate citizen by providing best medical services.
Dr. C. J Vetrievel worked in different countries and when he shifted in India he started working with
Apollos Hospitals but after some time he decided to start his own hospital and he left the Apollo. But
after he left Apollo he accepted the role of Director Deepam Hospitals and expanded their chain of
hospitals and revenue by 150%. Vetri quit the Deepam hospital because of futuristic plan. Vetri has
build his own hospital Be Wells with help of his friend C. Lakshmanan, he was chief financial senior
officer at senior designation. Vteri and his friend decided to expand their chain of hospital at different
location but for expansion they required more fund to build other hospitals. In 2011 SONG investment
advisors had invested in Be Well hospitals. SONG which became Aspda Investment company in 2013.

Challenge of establishing Be Well as an affordable, high quality medical service provider, Patients had
to compromise on healthcare, being forced to tradeoff between price and quality
Be Well has focused on the goals and aspirations of the doctors, medical superintendent’s, consultants
and other staff employed, and hence aligned these key players with the organization overall mission.
