School Counseling Intern
o Interned at a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) school.
o Counseled over 250 students in grades 9-12 from 27 different districts, using various therapeutic approaches to
address social/emotional needs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including emotional regulation, grief,
separation, poor attendance, and relationship conflicts.
o In collaboration, conducted various risk assessments and mental health referrals.
o Created need assessments, developed and presented core curriculum based on the needs of the school.
o Developed SEL curricula on Emotional Regulation (e.g., anger management), displaying an increase in
students’ mindsets and behaviors and a decrease in discipline referrals.
o Co-developed a virtual school counseling office with over 20 pages of social emotional, academic, and college
and career support for students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
o Created and facilitated four small virtual counseling groups on college and career readiness to all grade levels,
specifically to English Language Learners. Topics included: establishing/ manifesting goals, career interests,
postsecondary options, and financial literacy. Data showed that students’ knowledge on post-secondary
education increased.
o Created and facilitated a virtual small counseling group on growth mindset versus fixed mindset. Topics
included: Identifying growth mindset and fixed mindsets, importance of growth mindset, neuroplasticity,
strategies for perseverance, and positive self-talk.
o Facilitated virtual individual student planning using the California College Guidance Initiative (CCGI)
program to align students’ strengths and interests to postsecondary goals. Resulted into an increase in the
number of high school students enrolled in dual enrollment.
o Assisted students and families in completing the FAFSA application, Dream Act application, college
applications, and scholarships. Resulted in the greatest number of seniors accepted into four-year universities.
o Collaborated with the school counseling team and conducted a program evaluation to analyze how the school
counseling program was supporting students social/emotional needs, academic progress, and college and
career readiness during remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
o Consulted and collaborated with stakeholders on behalf of students during IEPs, 504 plans, and SST meetings.
o Served on the district’s School Counseling Advisory Council.

Potrero K-8 School, El Monte CA August 2020- May 2021


School Counseling Intern
o Counseled students in grades K-8 using diverse therapeutic approaches to address personal barriers.
o Co-developed and co-facilitated three bilingual small virtual counseling groups on stress management to 7th
and 8th graders.
o Facilitated curricula classroom lessons. Topics included: Meet the Counselor and Dangers of Youth Vaping.
By the end of the Vaping Awareness and Prevention lesson, 95.9% of students identified that teens are more
likely to become addicted to nicotine in cigarettes than adults, 85.7% identified that all pods contained high
levels of nicotine, and all students were able to identify healthier coping mechanisms to deal with stress, such
as meditation, exercise, talking to family and friends, journaling, etc.
o Consulted and collaborated with stakeholders to support students by identifying students’ strengths and needs.
o Consulted and collaborated with parents to discuss counseling services and provided parents information on
mental health referrals.
o Maintained a caseload of 5-10 students throughout the school year proving academic, social-emotional, and
college and career preparedness support.
o Co-developed student newsletters every month. Topics included: The Leader in Me: 7 Habits, time
management, bullying awareness month, information for parents, homeless awareness month, mindfulness for
stress management, empathy and kindness, resources and activities during COVID-19, African American
history month, college awareness month, grief, gender equality, women’s history month, etc.

o Counseled students in grades 6-8 under supervision.
o Co-facilitated a weekly small counseling group on the topic of growth mindset versus fixed mindset.
