(Write The LC Codes For Each) : I. Objectives

1. The document outlines a science lesson plan about climate change for 9th grade students. The objectives are to describe the greenhouse effect, climate change impacts, and ways to adapt to and mitigate climate change. 2. The lesson plan involves students defining key terms, watching a video on climate change, and answering questions to explain the concepts. Formative assessments include writing responses about adaptation and mitigation strategies. 3. Activities include a song, identifying impacts and adaptations/mitigations in scenarios, and assigning groups to design posters or songs about reducing climate change impacts.

Teaching Time 7:30-8:30 Quarter 3rd Quarter
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the factors that affect the climate, and the effects
of changing climate and how to adapt accordingly.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to participate in activities that reduce risks and lessen effects of
climate change.
C. Learning Competencies The learners should be able to describe certain climate phenomena that occur on a global
(Write the LC Codes for Each) level. ((S9ES: III-31)

D. Objectives 1. Describe greenhouse effect and climate change.

2. State the impacts of climate change.
3. Cite the ways of adapting and mitigating in the changing climatic condition.

II. CONTENT
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

examples/instances of the
new lesson.
ENGAGE
D. Discussing of the new concepts Given 15 minutes, Let the students answer the given questions based on what they viewed from the
and practicing new skills # video clips:
1. What is Climate Change and Greenhouse effect
E. Discussing of the new concepts 2. How do humans contribute to climate change?
and practicing new skills #2 3. How do you contribute to climate change?
EXPLORE 4. What does GHG stand for? How do humans produce GHGs?
5. Why is it important to take actions against climate change?
F. Developing mastery The students will write on their paper the answers on the given questions.
(Leads to formative 1. What could you do to combat climate change?
assessment) 2. What is mitigation? How can we mitigate climate change?
EXPLAIN 3. List 3 things you can do to mitigate climate change.
4. How can we adapt to the impacts of climate change?
5. List 3 things you can do to adapt to climate change?

 Further discuss adaptation and mitigation processes.

Adaptation activities include:

1. Upgrading storm sewer systems
2. Developing emergency alert systems
3. Providing “cooling centers”
4. Using thermal energy to heat and cool buildings, and
5. Building storm resistance structures.
There are also actions that will both reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help prepare for
climate change (mitigation and adaption). These actions include planting trees, building green roofs,
buying local food, and reducing water use (saves electricity to pump water and saves water for use
during dry spells). Can you explain why these actions both mitigate and adapt to climate change?

I can Mitigate by…

1. Walking to school..
2. Taking public transit
3. Turning off lights
4. Turning down the heat by 1 or 2 degrees in my house
5. Using fans instead of air conditioning
6. Finding recreational activities that do not involve using electricity
I can mitigate and adapt by…
1. Taking shorter showers (water conservation)
2. Planting a tree
3. Growing a garden
4. Buying local food
5. Volunteering to restore plant and animal habitat
What Can You Do to Combat Climate Change?
I can help Adapt to Climate Change by…
1. Not buying a house on the flood plain
2. Listening for heat alerts, flood and storm warning and advisories
3. Drinking lots of water when out in the heat
4. Getting involved in committees dealing with climate change issues.
5. Building awareness of my own carbon footprint to make lifestyle changes
G. Finding practical Let the students sing along with the rap song. From the song being sung, ask them the
applications to concepts and following questions:
skills in daily living 1. What are some important things to do in reducing waste?
2. Why we need to reuse materials?
H. Making generalization and 3. What can be done to other things aside from reducing and reusing them?
abstraction 4. Are the processes such as reducing, reusing and recycling can help in mitigating
ELABORATE climate change. Why?
5. Would you like to be a climate hero or a climate culprit? In what way you can be a
climate hero?
Read the statement below. Underline the impacts and circle how the situation has been
mitigated and/or adapted.
(Write A for Adaptation; M for mitigation or B for both Mitigation/Adaptation
I. Evaluating Learning 1. A local farmer has less crop production due to increased temperatures during the last ten
EVALUATE years in the Region. The farmer decides to grow a different type of crop that can withstand warmer
temperatures.
2. There are more frequent power failures in the place due to a high demand for cooling
systems. A family needs power to run their business. They install solar panels on the roof of their
house.
3. Extreme flood causes erosion on the side of the stream, 50 trees are damaged. A kids
camp plants 100 trees along the Riverside.
4. A heat wave hits the Region. Bea and her friends decide to go to an air conditioned
indoor skateboard park.

J. Additional activities for Each group will be assigned with the following tasks:
application and abstraction 1. Design a poster illustrating how you can you take action to reduce the impacts of
EXTEND climate change. (Group 1 and Group 2)
2. Compose a song or poem about reducing the impacts of climate change. (Group 3, 4
and 5)

V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION

C. Did the remedial lesson work?
Number of learners who have

D. Number of learners to require

E. Which of my teaching
