A short introduction of the module. This part provides information if the printed material
has supplementary materials that must be used (e.g. that there is a CD or memory stick that must
be opened)
A. Unit 1
Start the unit with the presentation of the topic learning outcomes.
Engage
This part of the unit of the module may any of the following:
Activities that aim to let the student process the relevance and meaning of
the unit topic
Motivation activities that aim to engage the student and get his focus on the
lesson
Activities that will identify knowledge gaps (e.g. pre-assessment activities,
pre-assessment questions, pre-assessment quiz)
activities that will stimulate recall or prior learning (e.g. survey, short essay
question, and others)
An introduction to the topic
Explore
This part of the unit of the module will present the main lesson through the
materials that will be read, viewed or explored. In the face-to-face classroom, this
is the part of the lecture or demonstration of new knowledge
Explain
This part of the unit contains activities that will:
allow the students to share what they learned during the Explore
phase.
allow the teacher to explain further the information from the
materials in the context (contextualization) of the students.
provide additional readings or recordings that has further
explanation to the materials presented in the Explore stage. This
additional materials can be article reviews, videos, commentaries,
or other aides that aim to boost understanding of the lesson.

Elaborate
This is the part of the module will let the student apply what he has learned. This
will provide the student the opportunity to his knowledge and skills
before the evaluation.
Evaluation
This part of the modules is the evaluation phase that may include graded self-
assessment, peer-assessment, writing assignments, and exams.

Note: The same parts will be followed in the succeeding units of the module. A learning
material for a whole course usually have more than 1 module, each module is divided into units.
For SLU the parts of the unit will be divided using the 5E instructional constructivist model.
