3. DESCRIBE THE EXPERIENCE OF THE STORY'S MAIN CHARACTER IN AMERICA?
What I can see on the characters of the story is the sense of hope and positivity that there is a way in
each situation and problems men are facing. Based on the one source I am reading, Carl can be
attributed as a good leader, dynamic in character; aggressive yet turned out to be a soft hearted person
after he met Marian. Jose is dynamic and willing to the fight for their rights yet respects and believes in
the authority. Millar’s character however is flat and the very cause why those two protagonist: Jose and
Carl were caught. Jake, Lester and the other three who are the antagonists are brutal and sadistic
towards the protagonists.
4. AT WHAT POINT IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY DID THE STORY HAPPEN?
During the Colonization of the Americans in the Philippines.
5. Explain and describe what the author refers to as the "two faces of America"?
The two characters of America which entails the good side that are shown outside but cruel on the
inside. It entails hypocrisy and dual personality as we can describe.
6. EXPLAIN THE MESSAGE OF THE STORY.
The Americans, on the time of Carlos, are showing goodness to the outside towards Filipinos yet they
beneath them, there were agendas that were like rotten fruits and cruelty. In each colonization, we may
see some progress, goodness and even prosperity but, we can’t deny the fact that there are hidden
motives that they possess.
If we will apply it in our daily lives, we can see that some people may be good outside. They may be
generous, polite and respectful towards you yet some, not all, have hidden motives why they are like
that to you. Some of them will just to take advantage of you yet when the table will be turned upside
down, there, they will reveal their true nature. You will see what they really are. They leave suffering
and the worst thing is will even crush you more. Put your trust on Christ and you will never be
disappointed. It is foolish to trust on people, even princes but on the Lord alone.
