II. RATIONALE
With the rising threat of the highly contagious disease, COVID-19, the
community has implemented strict policies that limit people from making contact
with others, therefore, affecting the flow of education. Due to the implementation
of different minimum health protocols in the community, students were not able
to study properly under the guidance of teachers. There is still somehow a
sense of inadequacy in relying on modules given by teachers in school alone.
To aid children with the free services of education, the Bachelor of Secondary
Department of Mindanao State University- General Santos City is conducting
the “KaBATAan Learning Time (KBL)”. The project aims at improving the
academic performance of those students who are mentally challenged
especially during this pandemic. This project seeks to pursue an extension

RISK AND ASSUMPTIONS
Some risks need to be addressed in proposing a goal as a future educator.
Identifying potential risks is connected to the various things an educator can do
in teaching, and it can be committing an offensive case in various aspects of the
field. Health and safety risks can also be a threat to damage the project, the
location can cause adverse events such as visiting or working in student’s
homes, cold or extreme weather conditions, risky work locations, etc. In line with
this, determining potential threats that can cause delays and disruption will be a
great help to assess the factors which could threaten the project.
Given the current outbreak, physical instruction or engaging in face-to-face
learning will lead to higher risk for the both the facilitator and also the
beneficiary. Parents' permission and agreement are absolutely necessary, and
some may refuse to allow their children to be involved, also the interest of the
children in participating is essential and some may decline and not participate
due to some reasons. Furthermore, the chosen location may not be conducive
to learning due to excessive noise and other elements that may cause the
children to become distracted. Owing to unforeseen circumstances, the
facilitators can be short on materials and human resources.
Thus, the risk to the health and safety brought by the pandemic
can be prevented by suitable and interactive strategy, physical distancing
(avoid below 1m distance contact), wearing of mask, and cleaning our
hands (with alcohol, and etc.),
MEANS
Educators
Educators are responsible for preparing the lesson plans, building a warm and
welcoming teaching environment, and mentoring and nurturing students to
become a role model. Educators should be able instruct in a variety of subject
such as literacy and numeracy and reach students with engaging lesson plans.
· 4th year BSED Students
Student must be responsible for attending the class and completing other tasks
given by their instructor. Student must obey their instructor at all times and
participate in the activities organized in their class.
As young educators, we don’t have enough budget to provide all the
materials our students need. In our situation right now, there are some basic
materials that we can easily provide that can help our students to learn. Visual
aid is one of the basic materials that we can easily provide and is very important
material in teaching. We can also provide some basic materials such as pad of
papers, pencils, erasers, etc. If our students don’t have any materials needed
for learning.

The”KaBATAan Learning Time aims to extend help to the students who
has a hard time in learning especially in this trying times. This project will be
done by the Faculty of Secondary Department and the 4 th year BSED students.
This project is also beneficial our future educators to prepare them for what will
happen in the future, this activity will also serve as their first training as a future
educator. To train and give them more knowledge to apply it in the future.
VII. MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Monitoring and evaluation are essential to determine whether or not the
program meets its objectives, outputs, and desired outcomes. It helps identify
gaps and weaknesses in the program so that timely and appropriately can-do
adjustments and interventions that will solve problems and put the program on
track again. The monitoring and the evaluation of the project will be headed by
Mr. Ricky Bustos the Project Coordinator together with Dr. Salome France
Sestina, BSED Chairperson. Every session will be checked every after two
weeks, thus requiring teachers to submit a report that will serve as the basis for
the children's progression. The students whom student teacher teach will
undergo different activities to guarantee that children will learn that student
teacher want them to learn. In this way, volunteers will know the indication of
achievement of objectives set by the team. As put in the report, if there is a
progression on the children, it will prove the project's effectiveness. But if there
will be no progression, future educators need to adjust the methods and ways of
their teaching where children could fully comprehend the lessons and activities.
On the other hand, to evaluate the students’ progress, a student teacher
must conduct an assessment. It is either formative or summative or both,
depending on the teacher's choice of strategy that is suitable and interactive on
both the teachers and students. Students will be evaluated by giving them a
thorough assessment at the end of the session as their final output. Moreover,
the learning materials will be procured by future educators. The said methods
will help the volunteers identify if learners meet the teacher's learning goals that
also signify the project's effectiveness. This endeavor will help the mentally
challenged students despite what we are going through for almost a year. As
the theme quoted, "Building Generation through Reading and Writing Amidst the
Pandemic," this will not hinder future educators' will from serving learners and
living up to their goals and objectives.
