Chocolate
A man comes out of the shadows with two plates, realises his smaller brother is not gonna be
there, and after he sighs puts one of the plates back. We see two toothbrushes near the sink.
The man takes one of the toothbrushes. As we tilt up, a man is seen looking in the mirror with
his toothbrush in his hand. Cut to him playing a game of Jenga, but as he sighs, he pushes the
jenga lightly and falls apart. He suddenly sees something behind the door of his house. He goes
towards it scared, and after he opens it, sees that it leads to a cemetery. As he goes through the
door, he sees two brothers standing near a grave. The older brother is him from the past.
The Big Brother tells the smaller brother: “They took care of us as much as they could, and they
were the greatest prent we could’ve asked for. We are alone now, but we have each other.”
Small brother leans into the sad big brother. The Big Brother that is experiencing the memory is
dragged into the grave. He finds himself again in the room he came from - only now it’s how it
looked in the past.
Both brothers are standing somewhere in a room, playing jenga. Big brother gives him
chocolate.
Small brother: ”What? How did you afford this? Where did you get the money?”
Big brother: ”i… I stole it”.
Small brother: What??? But I thought....
Big brother: I know, I just wanted this time to finally do something right for ourselves. The world
flipped us over, I just wanted for once to make things bearable again.
The smaller brother is quiet, and has an empathetic smile. He splits chocolate in half, and gives
one half to his older brother. Wide shot they both say cheers as they take the first bite. The big
brother from the present goes through another door.
The bigger Brother is staying in the room trying to pay the bills. Smaller brother comes in and
gives the bigger brother a lot of hard cash. The bigger brother is perplexed.
Big brother: “Where did you get this?”
Small brother: “I know, you’ve been struggling to pay up, you have three jobs after all, and you
won’t let me leave the school to work, so I stole it with my friends.”
Big brother: “You better not do this again. Thi will lead you down an irreversible path that will get
you hurt. This is not a friendly neighborhood, and those people are not your friends.”
Small brother: “It’s what you did as well. As you said, the world is not fair to us, and why should
we be fair?”
Big bro: “Because this is not who we are. We are not burglars, criminals, hooligans! Throw these
(points at cash) away.”
Small brother is in tears, angry, takes the cash and leaves. Before he exits the door he says
“We deserve this”.
As his memory world starts shaking, the present big brother heads towards the next door again,
where he enters the same room but with a different memory. There, the big brother prepares
dinner for the smaller brother. He hears a thud at the door. Careful, he opens it, and finds his
brother dead. He starts grieving. The big brother from the present tries to run out of the room
but enters the exact same room in the exact same memory. As he runs he hears the promises
he made to his brother that he will protect him. He falls down on the floor. His small brother
appears without saying anything, and the present big brother drops to the floor and starts
apologizing. The small brother smiles and puts an arm around his shoulder and asks “what are
you apologizing for?”. He reassures his brother that he did everything he could, and that he
didn’t deserve to have such a big responsibility. The big brother is not alone, because the
smaller brother will always be in his heart.
At the end, the big bro is seen eating half a chocolate. The other half of the chocolate is placed
near a portrait of the smaller brother. The bigger brother says cheers, and puts on a sad,
nostalgic smile. He bites from the chocolate.
