The Truth about Sleep

From the video which I watched in the class, I learned many new things about sleep that I
have never known before. The first thing is we are not getting enough sleep (40% of British
people get 6 hours or less). For me, I also often don’t get enough (about 6 hours) but the
requirement is 7 to 8hours per day. And I also recognize the negative effect of lacking sleep such
as making me ill, getting fatter, influence about my memories,…
According to a Doctor in the video, he helped me to point out some solutions for
getting a good night’s sleep. One thing is eating almonds because the foods rich in fiber help us
to sleep more quickly than sugar and saturated fat. Then, we should turn off our phone at least an
hour before going to bed. And some other ways are skipping alcohol, getting up at the same time
every morning or eating 2 kiwi fruit before bed,… I will try to test some of these solutions to
improve my sleep.
Moreover, from this video, I also learned what happens during our sleep and how
we are deep in sleep through 4 main stages and comes to REM (rapid eye movement). And now,
I know that we are not deep in during sleep, we always wake up a bit after a cycle (=90 minutes
for 5 stages).
And the last interesting thing from the Doctor is that when we sleep deeply, our
brain will flush out the toxins. It’s very important to know about this because if we don’t get
enough sleep, we will build up the toxins in ourselves, and it leads to Alzheimer’s disease. By
that, we need to make a good schedule and practice some solutions to improve our sleep habits.
