Reflection (video)

Emotions
From the video that I watched in the Sarra, I learned many new things about emotions that I have
never known before. The first thing is why we can detect the emotions in other people and whether
these predictions are true or false? According to the video, the emotions that we detect in other people
actually come in part from what is inside our own head. However, it is either true or false. For example,
if we see a person who is smiling, we will think that they are happy, however, they might be sad. Or
when people crying, it might mean that they are happy. By that, emotions are not in the face or body,
and we need to make it meaningful.

Next, I also learned that how our brains predict and construct the actions and the emotions for the
future by using past experiences. From the example in the video, I didn’t see anything from the picture
at first, however, after they showed that there is a snake in a picture, my brain constructed the image of a
snake. As a result, when I saw this picture again, my brain predicted about a snake through my past
experience.

The last interesting thing from the video is that “emotions which seem to happen to you are made
by you”. For instance, some students experienced anxiety before a test too much, and they tended to not
perform it well, it leads to fail courses sometimes. In contrast, if students learn to make energized
determination instead of anxiety, they often perform better on tests. That’s why we should change our
thinking because the actions and experiences from our thoughts that we make today will become our
brain’s predictions for tomorrow (for the future).
