- Monitor vital signs, observe
for signs of pain and have
client rate pain on a scale of 0
to 10.
- Encourage client to void
every 1 to 2 hours.
- Assist client to change
position
- Suggest pelvic rocking
- Integrate use of non-
pharmacologic measures of
pain relief, such as warm
water, birthing ball, or other
techniques
- Provide reassurance and
encouragement between
contractions.

tolerable level of pain and
discomfort.
