Observe: LEARNING EPISODE 5: Creating An Appropriate Learning Environment

The document discusses creating an appropriate learning environment through classroom organization and management. It observes a Grade 8 classroom, noting student behaviors, classroom areas, rules, routines, and seating arrangement. Positive reinforcement of rules made with student input is most effective for managing behavior. When designing a classroom, the teacher should consider student participation and focus on what benefits students, using behavior strategies that motivate through realization and value inculcation. As a future teacher, the author would like to teach high school seniors and use routines preparing them for college through gentle pressure and motivation.

LEARNING EPISODE 5: Creating an Appropriate Learning Environment

Activity 5.1 Managing Time, Space and Learning Resources

Resource Teacher: _Mariel Joy G. Dagami__ Teacher’s Signature: _________ School: _EVSU_
Grade/Year Level: __4th Year___ Subject Area: __FS 1__ Date: __10/04/21__

OBSERVE
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
 Most of the students that I observed in the grade 8 level ages around 13-14 yrs.
old, the students are very attentive and participative in the class showing their
brilliancy about the topic they tackled on that day, but some are shy maybe
because of our presence the FS students or maybe it’s already their personality.

2. How many boys are there? How many girls?

 7 boys and 13 girls

3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior?
 Yes, the students already can manage their behavior since as I observe most of the
gen z people mature in the early ages than other generations, it is due to
environmental and fashion lifestyle changes that they are encountering every day.

4. Can the learners already work independently?

 For me, yes but not all the time since not all students have the same intellectual
capacity in dealing with problems in school works. They still need a little of
somewhat guidance to succeed.

5. Describe their span of attention.

 Most of the students have 15 minutes span of attention in the discussion so the
teacher needs to adjust the style of teaching to avoid inattentiveness in the class.

ANALYZE
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purpose? Describe these areas. Will it make a
difference if these areas for specific purpose are not present?

 Yes, there is. Most specially in the front its purpose is for the space of the teacher
during discussion and for the presentation of the students, while in the back is the
space for classroom materials along with some sides in the classroom. There will
be difference if these areas are not present since the space room will no longer be
called a classroom but just merely a stock room because its not already a learning
space for the learners.

2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room? List them down. Do these rules
reinforce positive behavior?
 Yes, there is. Like the rules for good etiquette in the classroom, the schedule for
sweepers, list for reporters accordingly, and etc. This thing’s guide the students in
the everyday work at school.

3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? If the resource teacher is
available, ask him/her to describe the process. What’s the effect of students’ participation
in rule-making in student’s behavior?
 Yes, the students are participating in making the classroom rules, because if they
are included or they are the ones who made it, there are big chances that the rules
will be followed due to being guilty if not followed.

4. What are the daily routines done by Resource Teacher? How are they done?
 The students are advised to clean the classroom first before the start of class for
better learning environment, pray before the lesson proper, and class attendance to
check who are present in that day.

5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement? Does this help in a
managing the class?
 Yes, there is a setting arrangement and its basis is by family name in order for the
teacher to easily identify who is absent in that day.

6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?

 The noise level in the classroom is different if the teacher is around because the
students might be scolded if the noise will not be minimized or the students are
afraid of deductions.

7. If a learner is not followed instruction or is off-disk, what does the Resource Teacher do?
Describe the behavior strategies used.
 At first offense the students will just be reminded, and if the student will not
follow instructions and done it intentionally or repeatedly disciplinary actions rule
in the hands of the teacher.

8. What does the resource teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors?

 Being a good role model to the students is the best reinforce for positive behaviors
with a flexible mindset towards students not scary disciplinary actions.
REFLECT
Reflection as a future, teacher.
1. Why do you need to enforce positive discipline?
 Enforcing positive discipline is necessary for the welfare of the students and to promote
unity in diversity. Without this chaos in the classroom might arise and soon will be
unbearable to handle.

Activity 5.2 Identifying the Different Aspects of Classroom Management

ANALYZE
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’ behavior?
 It helps better focus during class discussion though this can have negative effect
sometimes depends on the teacher’s handling abilities in a class

2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom organization and
routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
 Most of the teacher think that making a classroom organization and routines should have
the participation of the students in the creation due to avoidance and not following it buy
the students, buy that the students will have a sense of responsibilities of what they
suggested in the designing of classroom organization and routines. In this moment a
teacher should think what is good for his/her students.

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In motivating
students? Why were they effective?
 For me, the best behavior strategy in managing behavior for the learners is a strict-rules
in a way that you are motivating the students because by that they will be changed
through realization and will persevere becoming a better version of his/herself. It is very
effective since you are inculcating values in the hearts of the students.

REFLECT
1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade year level do you see
yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level why?
 For me, I really like to teach graduating students in high school because I am type of
person who really love learners in a hard way preparing them becoming a firm and strong
individual in their collage life. Putting always pressure in them in a gentle way would
change their perspective of schooling with motivating style. This kind of routine and
procedures in a whole year, I guess it would be enough for them for the next challenge of
higher education.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose these
rules?
 Always speak in English.
 Always pay respect to your classmate most especially to the teacher.
 Minimize going out in the class if not necessary.
 Always follow the class routine, if not followed prepare for sanctioned.
 No loitering in the classroom.
 Be responsible of your own things.
3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?
 The learners should be involved in the making of class rules for them to have a sense of
responsibility of what they suggested rule in the classroom. By that peace and harmony
would be attained in the classroom.
