INTRODUCTION OF THE LESSON
With the growing environmental problems, the extreme effects are attached in
resulting damages to the humanity such as damages to property, the war for
resources, rampant of poverty, severe diseases, and even loss of lives brought about by
the pollution, climate change and natural calamities such as earthquake, landslide,
flooding, volcanic eruption, soil erosion ad, etc. Consequently, humanity has been
facing now the serious challenges that need immediate action to reduce the damages
inflicted by the environment. We cannot hide the fact that whatever we do, our actions
affect our environment whether positive or negative.
What does it mean? Is it possible to use natural resources without destroying
and harming the environment? Could we conserve at the same time? Yes, it is. Like
the last previous, humanity must be empowered and equipped with the philosophical
ideas regarding the environment which is environmentalism because it is impossible
to protect and conserve the environment if we do not have environmental care. To
practically have this, we should have the concepts of sustainability or sustainable
development to ensure the conservation and protection of the environment. In this
view, humanity will be able to reflect and decide that is beneficial not only for his sake
but also for his environment.
In this last part of the Human Person in the environment, you will be able to
identify the three important principles of sustainability in ensuring the conservation
and protection of the environment. Besides, changes will start from us through the
application of the values of prudence and frugality that can guide us in our personal
use of resources.
What Is It?
The Scope of the Human Person in the Environment
A. What can I do to uphold environmentalism and care for nature?
Recognizing the urgent need for humanity to address the challenges in our
environment need for humanity to address environmental problems. Environmentalist
views have given rise to varied perspectives regarding the best means for humanity to
take action and uphold its mission as stewards of nature.
Philo. Q1. Wk.11 Marlon Q. Tiña
One of the major concepts that drive environmentalism is sustainability or
sustainable development. This movement concentrates on reconciling human activities
and economic development with the protection of the environment. One of the major
ideas of sustainability is that we must make wise decisions regarding the use of
natural resources to ensure that there is still enough left for future use.
Sustainability consists of three important principles: environmental integrity,
economic efficiency, and equity. environmental integrity refers to maintaining the state
of the environment. it encourages that human activities should not unduly disrupt the
ecosystems and human communities located in the area. Human activities must not
impact drastically the surrounding landscape and care should be taken. Economic
efficiency refers to prudence in decision-making regarding the use of resources to
ensure that there is a minimum of zero waste.
Finally, equity requests that the natural resources must be used in such a
manner that these are conserved so that the next generation will be able to use them.
The value of prudence a frugality can guide in our personal use of resources. Prudence
is the ability to regulate one’s actions and behavior, while frugality is being thrifty with
the use of one’s resources. Reflect on how you have been using resources at home and
in school. How can you apply prudence and frugality in implementing changes to
become wiser and more considerate consumers? Ho will these values guide you in
addressing environmental problems in your home, school, and community.
As human persons, we should treat with respect not only our fellow humans but
also everything in our world. Upholding environmentalism and sustainability will
enable us to take the steps in addressing environmental issues and contribute to
solving the greater environmental challenge of climate change.
