Dewa Anta, the Snake God, was unable to carry a stone for the palace as requested by Batara Guru. When crying, his tears turned into three eggs which he carried in his mouth to the palace. Along the way, an eagle attacked and two eggs fell from his mouth. The last egg hatched into a beautiful girl named Dewi Sri who was raised by Batara Guru. Fearing they would violate a law against marriage, the other gods poisoned Dewi Sri, but from her grave grew rice which was brought to earth, establishing rice cultivation.

Dewi Sri (Dewi Padi)

Once upon a time, Batara Guru the king of all gods was building a new palace in heaven. He sent
word to all the gods that every god had to carry a large stone for the base of the palace. Each god
agreed to obey the order except the Snake God or dewa anta.

When Batara Narada, the Messenger God came to him, he was sitting sadly, he did not have hand
or feet so he could not carry the stone. then he cried, three tears fell on his cheeks. When the tears fell
down, suddenly the tears turned into three white eggs. Then Batara Narada told to dewa anta to take
those eggs to the Lord of Gods. So, dewa Anta went to the palace by carrying the three eggs in his
mouth.On the way, he met a large eagle, But Dewa Anta's mouth was full of eggs so he could not
answer.The Great eagle was repeated the question twice without getting an answer, so he became very
angry. He started pecking at Dewa Anta's head. It was really painful for Dewa Anta so he shouted cry
twice, and every time he opened his mouth an egg fell.

Dewa Anta felt very sad because he only had one egg in his mouth. He brought the last egg to the
Batara Guru. When Dewa anta was arrived at the palace, he told everything that happened to the
Batara Guru. But Batara Guru asks Dewa Anta to take care of the egg until it hatches and gives what
comes out of the egg.
Finally, one day, the egg hatched and inside the egg lay a baby girl. Immediately, Dewa Anta took
the baby to Batara Guru who took it as his daughter and was given the name Dewi Sri. He grew up like a
princess in the palace.

A few years later, Dewi Sri grew into a beautiful young woman. She was very kind and Batara Guru
also showed deep affection for her, so the others god were afraid that he would marry her. in the law it
is said that a king may not marry his daughter. The others god feared that the law would be violated, so
they secretly decided that Dewi Sri must be killed.

Therefore, one day, the others god poisoned a favorite piece of Dewi Sri's fruit and gave it to
her.As soon as she ate the fruit, then she was fell ill. The more days he gets weaker and finally dies.The
body of Dewi Sri was buried in a royal ceremony and a royal aide guarded her grave and watered it so
that the flowers would grow around the grave.
Then, from the grave grew a strange plant that had never been seen before. This heaven's plant is
now called rice plant. Seeing the miraculous event, Batara Guru asked the royal aide to bring the rice
seeds down to earth and give them to the king on earth called Pajajaran.

The King Pajajaran was very happy to receive a special gift from the lord of God.Then a goddess
descends from heaven to earth to teach all young girls how to cook rice and serve it in many delicious
ways. Pajajaran residents live peacefully and happily, never lack food.

Moral : Imposing the will of others will cause a problem
