 INTRODUCTION

The movie that I have chosen is Passengers. This movie has the context that actually

are relates with the digital technology. Passengers is an American science fiction romance

film. The plot depicts two individuals who have been awakened ninety years early from an

induced hibernation on a spaceship and that is transporting thousands of passengers in 60

light years away from the earth to a colony on a planet.

The Avalon, which is the sleeper ship is on the way from the Earth to the planet Homestead

II, which is a 120-year journey, transporting 5,000 colonists and 258 members of the crew on

hibernation pods. Thirty years while on the journey, an asteroid ship crash damages the ship

and causes a malfunctioning problem on a passenger, which is the mechanical engineer

Digital technology, known as the Latin term "digital" digitally used and fingering one of the

oldest tools for counting. When the data is stored, processed, or digitally transmitted, it is

economic historians claim that after 1800, due to the role of technology in economic transition,

the global economy has only experienced unprecedented growth.

In recent years, digital technology has expanded enormously, and society is increasingly

reliant on it. The aim of digital technology is to help people work together to achieve common

goals and objectives. The way people communicate, learn, and work has changed with digital

technology. It also helps to improve the employee’s productivity, satisfaction as well as their

skills, abilities, and expertise in certain jobs (Kapur, 2018).

To sum up the movie, Jim grows dependent and contemplates suicide after a year of isolation

with only an android barman named Arthur that works for the ship, until he sees in her pod a

gorgeous young woman called Aurora Lane. After struggling with the morality for reviving

Aurora's for companionship, but her future life thus being taken away. Jim woke her up, letting

 her believe that her pod too did not work. Soon after that, Gus, the chief deck officer, awakens

because of another failure pod. He discovers that there are few several failures in the systems

of the ship, although the computer does not reveal the causes. The ship will still experience

critical system failures if it is not repaired, and the mission may fail, which can cost the lives of

all hibernating passengers and crews. With the help of Jim and Aurora, Gus tries to repair the

ship. Before death, Gus authorises Jim and Aurora to access and repair crew areas only.

 SUMMARY

The movie showed high digital technology has an important part to play in the life of

every person. It can help us complete the tasks, help us to communicate, even from various

parts of the world, with others, help us to recall memories that we have put the technology.

Digital technology has transformed many people's lives which can has a positive and negative

consequence.

The impact of the digital technology is when people are becoming increasingly creative

and these technologies are being developed more conveniently. In the movie, we can see that

the digital technology has help the main character which is Jim by being his only companion

trough out of one year after his awaken from the long hibernation using the barman robot

which is a bartender robot. The bartender is a like a mythical character. It is a robotic machine

with two mechanical arms that create all sorts of cocktails. The barman robot is a friendly robot

that can speak and listen, so hence why the main character always goes to the robots when

he is lonely. This robot can be used tourism industry especially on hotels, restaurants, and

tour places. The robot could perform task or work like human can. Robot is indeed a machine

designed to carry out specific tasks accurately automatically. This could include physical tasks

like assembly of parts in a factory. Robots have many kinds of different forms. It can be an

independent or semi-autonomous and work with a certain amount of human help. Modern

robots are using technology from collision recognition to speech detection and artificial

intelligence. These robots can be use in front office department in the hotel. It can help the

guests for check in and check out procedure. Some hotels in peak seasons, can take up to 3-

4 hours of check in waiting time. By having the robot, it could help the hotels check in

procedure be faster and efficiently. Some hotels now have a self-check in services whereby

the guests will check in thru computer that were provided or even a robot in some countries.

As we know, robot never gets tired, is never bored, and requires no motivation unlike

humans. Furthermore, a robot does not require a salary to be paid, can operate without breaks

 or holidays which is functionally active for 24 hours a day. On the negative side, oversupply of

robots could start a crisis, which would lead to job shortages when be replaced with humans.

Robots also can malfunction and can cost both high initial and long-term maintenance. Based

on (Barden, 2017) robots can certainly handle their prescribed tasks, but they typically cannot

handle unexpected situations.

Other than that, with creativity on creating and developing the technology, the digital

technology also has a virtual reality system that can help people go some places that they

cannot go or even recall old memories that they have. Based on the movie, Aurora used that

so she can use virtual reality to escape real life by recalling her old memories from her past.

This can be linked to the current situation of the tourism industry. Due to the pandemic that

we are facing right now which is Covid-19, it has retained all people to travel anywhere. With

this virtual reality people can go anywhere virtually from their own home. Tourists can see the

places with virtual reality that of the destinations that want to travel. Virtual reality can provide

customers with virtual travel experience using the main attractions of certain countries

(Revfine, 2020). Virtual reality refers to interactive images or videos that allow viewers to

explore a scene in its entirety which is in 360 degrees. Unlike a regular video image taken

from a fixed point of view, every part of a location is captured in virtual reality production. In

the travel industry, virtual reality can be used in a unique and immersive way to capture tourism

destinations. This is done with cameras, devices, and software specialists.

Although virtual reality can be a major asset, it can also be a major disadvantage.

Traditional education is based on personal communication with human beings and

interpersonal interactions. The relations between the people to another people can be

damaged with the virtual reality. Virtual reality also can affect our health because there were

complained about headaches, blurred vision, and nausea. Users has been advised to take a

break at frequent times whilst using it.

Apart from that, this movie also shown Artificial Intelligence (AI) as one of their digital

technologies in the spaceships. According to (McCarthy) AI is the science and engineering of

 making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. As per the movie, their

ship has few malfunctions and they able to solve it by detecting what are the problems that

causes the malfunction happened. The AI systems in the ships has help them to locate which

parts, areas also things that has a problem. With the systems it also solved their problems

without having to face the consequences with is risking their journey and other passengers on

board. Since an AI is a programme, it needs no physical self. AI can work in our handphones,

laptops, and even robot. It also most likely can perform tasks that are in connection with

systems, algorithms and information related, including analysing and computing a certain

result. According to (Hill, 2017) robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) serve very different

purposes. With AI systems, it can evolve new technologies that can improve the tourism

industry. These technologies can offer customers with a new and better experience while

travelling. For example, in language barrier issue, tourists that went to country that does not

speak and understand English could lead into miscommunications. Going to country that is

not an English-speaking country would make the trip become more stressful. However, with

the AI system, the software applications can replace a local guide, by helping the tourists

translating the foreign language into the recognizable languages. At the same time, the

software applications would allow tourist to communicate with the local people in their own

 CONCLUSION

This is a great movie that has tons of contemplations involving the technology. It

indicates that digital technology can benefit people in many various forms. Besides, digital

technology too able to play a part in the tourism industry. Although the digital technologies

have been used widely in this industry it also can add more technologies as it can lift the

tourism industry’s service and value. Other than that, it would help this industry to catch the

most up-to-date trend of the world. Nonetheless, using these digital technologies also can give

negative consequences to users. It may perhaps soar in physical, emotion and social troubles.

Likewise, it may well lead to redundancy problems as the digital technology will have an
