DREAM! BELIEVE! SURVIVE!
by: FREDIE SISON JR
Dream! Believe! Survive! Sounds familiar? I’m sure you are familiar with it because it is one of
the most renowned lines, held in esteem of one of the programs of GMA 7. Twelve contestants
have been DREAMING to reach the zenith of victory and BELIEVING that someday them case
SURVIVED.
My memories in the seminary are as fresh as milieus of today. We were fourteen as we entered
the seedbed of formation in the vineyard of the Lord. Fourteen young men from different places
in the Philippines’. Different principles and philosophies of various cultures and backgrounds
who courageously gave their best in putting their fingers in the pie of formation and virtuously
responded to the calling of God.
At the outset of our cruise, we found difficulties in adjusting in many aspects. In academics, as if
we would lose our minds in translating Spanish, French and Latin languages. We pushed
ourselves to our limits just to understand Philosophy and Theology subjects. Most of all, we
really dedicated ourselves in coping up with the high standards of education taught by our strict
professors who are priests. In our social life, rejections and misunderstanding are unavoidable.
We found difficulties in dealing with other seminarians.
In terms of seminary norms, we almost struck our own flags due to rigid formation, stern
discipline and rule- bounded formation. Despite of my sentiments and complaints, I understand
that all of these are anchored to bring out the best in us, to mold and shape us of becoming well-
rounded individuals and prepare us to the chosen life we discerned. After four years, 6 out of 14
young men SURVIVED in the minor seminary stage. We enjoyed reaping the first fruits of the
seeds which we once planted, bearing in mind that we need to sow again for the next harvest
season.
Given the opportunity to share my life in this Guided Learning Activity Kit, I just want to give an
advice. Set your DREAM in your life because a man without chart or compass will never reach
the harbor of success. DREAM something that you want to be in the future. Let your DREAM be
the engine everyday clash against lethargy, financial and family problems, hunger or anything
that hinders you to stop your schooling. BELIEVE in yourself that God loves and values you with
all your weaknesses and sinfulness. BELIEVE in your power to control and run your life with
God as your source of wisdom and strength. BELIEVE in yourself that you can win over your
battles and difficulties in life and turns them into glorifying experiences. BELIEVE in yourself
that you can discover and use your talents and abilities to the best advantage and in so doing;
make meaningful contribution for this world to be a better place to live in. With all of these,
surely you will SURVIVE.
