RTI - Progress Monitoring Case Studies

Level B – Case 1 – Sam

Using the Vanderbilt Passage Reading Fluency probe Sam’s words read correctly was 58.

The middle-of-year benchmark was set at 55. Sam’s score has exceed the benchmark by 3,

therefore, he is performing at middle-of-year level.

In weeks 17-22 Samaria’s words read correctly have continued to increase showing

significant improvement. She has reached the target words read correctly and should continue to

make progress. I would make sure that the parents saw the growth and would explain to them

how we will continue to help her grow by the interventions we are using.

WPM Goal

Based on the information provided Alejandro is not advancing in the general education

setting. He has not made significant progress of his correct words per minute and has not reached

the benchmark goal. When discussing this with Alejandro’s parents I would recommend an

intense reading intervention to help be more successful. I would also discuss with them on how

they help at home by reading at least 30 minutes every night and I would ask that he attend

tutoring at least once a week.
