Dear Delegates, lovely staff and

we gathered here today, in the Human Rights Committee, to find new ways to
improve the accessibility to Health and Education in Reception Centres for Migrants
and Refugees.

Reception Centers are very important because they are the facilities that receive,
process and attend to the most immediate needs of refugees or migrants when they
arrive in a country. It is very important that refugees and migrants have easy and
granted access to health and education, it is a basic human right. they usually are
entering a country where they don’t know the language and may come from a
different culture so having a proper education in the receiving country may help them
feel more at home.

We must bear in mind that most of the time people that migrate do so out of
necessity, in order to escape from armed conflict, poverty, persecution, human rights
violations, abuses, food insecurity, adverse effects of climate change… and then,
once they get to the Reception Centres, they are met with abuse and marginalization
in the welcome countries again, making them miss out on proper education and
medical care.

We are responsible to make sure that THAT does not happen and ensuring better
access and quality. If we don’t do it, the ones that normally suffer the most are
children, that get forced into child labour, early marriage, human trafficking…

As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “All human beings are born
free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience
and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood”. Today I help you so
tomorrow you can help me.

We need to improve the accessibility to Health and Education in Reception Centres

now more than ever. We have seen how quickly the international community gets
shaken, right now with the Ukraine war we have seen how rapidly migration starts
and we owe them to be prepared to meet their basic necessities, and to grant them
access to everything they are being forced to leave behind.
But let's not forget all the other wars and refugees from the Middle East, Africa and
Latin America. War is not the answer nor the solution to any problem, especially
when the ones that will suffer the most are the civilians. There are other diplomatic
ways!

Please, remember delegates that we are here to practice how a Model United
Nations works and the presidency is not here to judge or criticise you, instead, we
are here to help you improve. If at any moment, any delegate needs help translating
a word, remembering the procedure or any other thing, you may ask for help, that is
what we are for. Do not be afraid to ask for it at any given moment, keep in mind that
you are here to learn and improve, using a language that is not your mother tongue.
Keep it professional but have fun as well.

Coming next week is International Women's day, and we want to remind the
importance of empowering the women around the globe, showing every girl that they
matter and that they can also be in a position of power. It is a chance to make them
see that, if they want to, they deserve the same opportunities as their male
counterparts. Every person deserves to feel seen, heard and taken into account.

I would like to finish by thanking the MUN directors for organizing this training
session, the Escola Pia Nostra Senyora for coming here and participating, the Institut
la Vall del Tenes for letting us use their installations and participating and also, to my
dear colleges in the Precisdency for making this MUN Training Session possible as
well.

Thanks for your attention,

Now the session is officially open.
