A/Y 2019-2020
March 10, 2020
I. Objectives
At the end of the 60-minute discussion, the students will be able to:
1. define mean.
2. solve problems involving the mean of central tendency.
3. relate the topic into real life situations.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Measures of Central tendency (MEAN)
Materials: Projector, Printed materials, Visual Aids, Pictures, Chalk and Board.
References: Learner’s material for Mathematics Grade 10 page 301 - 314
Key concepts:
Measures of central tendency – are numerical descriptive measures
which indicate or locate the center of a distribution or data set
Mean – is the average of the data set.
Skills: Comprehension, Analysis
Values integration: Cooperation, Participation
Methodology: 3I’s (Introduction, Interaction, Integration)
III. Procedure
Student’s
Teacher Teacher’s
Activity
Hint Activity
Preliminaries
A. Greetings Good morning class! Good morning sir!
B. Prayer Let us all stand for a prayer. Students stand for the prayer.
C. Securing
the cleanliness Before you take your seats, kindly pick-up the
pieces of papers and plastics scattered around
you and please arrange your chairs properly.
(Students will do)
D. Checking of Class secretary, kindly list down the absentees
Attendance today and give it to me later.
Yes sir.
What was our topic yesterday class? Yes,
E. Recall
Nicole?
Sir, we discussed about Pie Graph.
Thank you, Nicole. What did you learned
about Pie Graph? Pie Graph is represented by a circle
divided into parts showing the
relationship among parts and the
relationship of a part to a whole.
Very good class!
Motivation Look at this stack of blocks.
Let’s represent this numbers in stack of
blocks whose heights corresponds with the
value.
{1, 8, 3, 2, 6,} Different
Numbers
Different
Height
What if we rearrange the stack of blocks with
the same height, what amount would that
be? It will be the same height if there will
4 blocks from each stack.
Okay very good!
We can have it equal in height if they contain
4 blocks for each stack.
INTRODUCTION
A. Presentation
of the Lesson Aling Martha is a fruit vendor. Here is the
data of the water melon that she sold in a
week.
She wants to have an idea about the average
number of water melons that she sells in a
day.
How could that be possible?
Yes, Jen? Sir, this can be found by rearranging
the water melons over the days such
that each day has the same number
of water melons which is 8.
Very good, Jen.
On regrouping we can have the idea of the
average number of water melon in a day that
Aling Martha sold and that is 8.
It is also the same when you add all the water
melons and divide it by the number of days.
B. Presentation
of the
objectives Today we should take aim to target some
goals that we need to attain during and after
our discussion. Who wants to read our goals
for today’s discussion?
A. define mean.
B. solve problems involving the
mean of central tendency.
C. relate the topic into real life
situations.
C. Unlocking
of Difficulties We will encounter this word:
• •
• Sum – result or answer we get on adding two
or more numbers or terms.
INTERACTION
Lesson proper What you have done a while ago is a sample
of getting the average of a sample data set or
what we called MEAN in statistics. Yes sir!
How about the definition of the Mean?
Anyone? Mean is the average of the data set.
Mean is the sum of all the values
divided by the number of values.
Mean is the first common measures
of Central Tendency.
Mean represents the value of a data
set.
Mean = Average
Mean and average is just two different terms
but the same property of the data set.
To understand what it is, let’s Look at this set
of data.
For ungrouped data, the mean has the
following formula.
Given the formula:
Example 1
Below are scores of 6 students from math
Test. Calculate the mean.
11, 15, 10, 9, 7, 8
To get the mean, what do we have to do
first?
That’s right! Use the formula.
Using the formula for Mean;
11+ 15+ 10+ 9+ 7+ 8
=
6
60
= 6
= 10
Do you understand class? Yes sir!
Let’s have another example.
Example 2
Mang Domeng is a meat vendor. The
following are his sales for the past five
days. Compute his daily mean sales.
Tuesday P 5,000
Wednesday 3,000
Thursday 2,500
Friday 4,500
Saturday 6,000
Who wants to try this on the board?
Yes, Jeanly? Solution:
5000+3000+2500+4500+6000
Mean =
5
21000
=
5
Mean = 4,200
Very good.
Ok class, let’s give Jeanly a barangay clap. 123,123, wooow, hooooo
Did you understand class? Yes Sir!
INTEGRATION (Pre-Activity)
I will divide the class into 3. Read and follow
the instructions written in the activity sheet
that will be given to each group.
Perform the activity for 5 minutes.
You will be graded from the following
rubric.
My final work is complete
and correct
My work shows that I have
applied new math ideas
My work is neat and shows
that I did my best
I used my class time wisely
I presented the topic well
Direction:
1. List all the data over the last four days in ½
cartolina.
2. For each group list the highest value/number
of hours among the member for each
day.
3. Calculate for mean.
4. Present your answer in front of the class.
5. Minimize your noise while doing the activity.
Group #1
Hours Spent in Playing Computer
Games/using cellular phones.

your work.
Student’s Sample answer:

G3

2 1
3 1
4 1
(The teacher will give the grade of the group
Total 4
based on the rubrics)
Mean 1
Generalization Now, based from what we have discussed,
can anyone tell me what is mean all about?
Yes Troy! Mean – is the average of the data
set.
And what is the formula use to find the
mean?
Very good!
Is there any question or clarification about
our lesson for today? None sir!
Valuing Going back to the activity, I noticed that you
spent an average of 4 hours a day in playing
video games while doing the household is
only 2 and a half hours a day, and 1 hour in
doing your homework. What does it implies
to you? Children are now spending more
time in playing video games and
using cellphones than doing
household and doing assignment.
Do you think it is good to spend more time in
playing? No, Sir!
Using cellphones? No, Sir!
That’s why, as children like you, what should
you do to make your parents happy? We should help our parents do the
household and lessen the time in
playing such games and do our part
as students to repay their hard work.
Very Good! And with that I hope you have
learned from our lesson that spending more
time in playing computer will not make you
productive. Help your parents because they
are your wealth.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Solve the following.
1. Given the 1st Grading grade of JUAN DELA CRUZ. Will he be in the honor list?
(Qualified for honors should have an average of 90 and above)
Filipino 89
English 90
Math 90
Science 91
AP 92
TLE 92
MAPEH 87
ESP 88
Average
2. The foot size of 5 basketball players are as follows: 9 in, 11 in, 9 in, 9.5 in and 10 in. Calculate
the mean.
V. Assignment March 11, 2020
A. Compute your own average for the first to third Grading.
B. Define the following;
