Warm-up - Flag tag - 5 minutes
v Each student will have a flag on each hip (flag football flags)
v Students will try to get the other students flags while remaining within a space designated by
the teacher
v If a student manages to take someone else’s flag, they take it to the center and place it in a
hula-hoop
v Students can get their flags back by going to the center, doing 5 push-ups for a flag they are
retrieving, and taking their flag back

Clears
- Today we will be moving on to clears
- Does anyone know what badminton clear is?
- A clear is when you make a shot that hits all the way to the other opponents boundary line
- Clears help continue rallies
- When hitting clears, use shuffling to get behind the bird, there is nothing worse than hitting thin air
- Arms ready and up, even not racket hand
We will first learn a overhead clear
Overhead clear
- Defensive shot from your baseline to opponents baseline
- Body sideways, step forward, look at bird, hit with power and follow through
- Raise non racket arm
- Complete a full arm swing
-used when trying to move opponent into the backcourt
Forehand and backhand
- Different grips, same movement
Underarm clears
- Underarm clears are a foundational move in badminton
- Turn your body so that your back is facing the net
- Lead and shift your weight to your racket foot
- Lift your arm from the shoulder with the forearm parallel to the floor.
- - Hold the racket across your body with the racket head pointing down.
- - Keep the racket arm and elbow close into your body.
- - Hit the shuttle at a high point of contact.
- - Flick your wrist powerfully towards the shuttle.
Partner Practise
- Grab your partner and a spot at the nets, practise overhead clears
- When I blow the whistle to switch you will switch to underarm clears
Closure ( 2 min.):
Okay students, can I have the helpers please start net takedown, once that is finished please put
your rackets away and line up at the door
