FORMAT FOR PREPARATION OF PROJECT REPORT

1. GENERAL:
The manual is intended to provide broad guidelines to the B.E./[Link]. candidates in the
preparation of the project report. In general, the project report shall report, in an organised and
scholarly fashion an account of original research work of the candidate leading to the discovery
of new facts or techniques or correlation of facts already known (analytical, experiments,
hardware oriented etc.)

2. NUMBER OF COPIES TO BE SUBMITTED:

B.E./[Link]..: Students should submit five copies to the Head of the Department concerned on
or before the specified date. The Head of the Department should send (i) One copy to the
University. (ii) One copy to the library (iii) One copy each to the internal (iv) One Copy each to
the External (v) One copy to the student concerned.

3. SIZE OF PROJECT REPORT:


The size of project report should not be less than 20 pages of typed matter.

4. ARRANGEMENT OF CONTENTS:
The sequence in which the project report material should be arranged and bound should be as
follows:
1. Cover Page & Title Page
2. Declaration by the candidate
3. Certificate by the supervisor
4. Certificate by the examiner
5. Acknowledgement
6. Abstract
7. Table of Contents
8. List of Table
9. List of Figures
10. List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature
11. Chapters
12. Appendices
13. References
The table and figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places.

5. PAGE DIMENSION AND BINDING SPECIFICATIONS:


The project report should be of A4 size. The project report should be hard bound with cover page
in light pink colour. The cover should be printed in black letters and the text for printing should
be identical.
6. PREPARATION FORMAT:
6.1 Cover Page & Title Page – A specimen copy of the Cover page & Title page of the
project report are given in Appendix 1.
6.2 Declaration Certificate – The Certificate shall be in One and a half line spacing using
Font Style ‘Times New Roman’ and Font Size 14.
6.3 Certificate of approval- Declaration to be given for the work done by the student as per
the format.
6.4 Acknowledgement – It should be brief and should not exceed one page when typed one
and a half spacing.
6.5 Abstract – Abstract should be one page of the project report typed One and a half line
spacing, Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 13.
6.6 Table of Contents – The table of contents should list all material following it as well as
any material which precedes it. The title page, Declaration Certificate, Certificate of
approval and abstract will not find a place among the items listed in the Table of
Contents: The page numbers for the abstract, list of tables, list of figures and list of
symbols should be in lower case Roman letters. One and a half spacing should be adopted
for typing the matter under this head.
6.7 List of Tables – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear above the
tables in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under
this head.
6.8 List of Figures – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear below the
figures in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under
this head.
6.9 List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature – One and a half spacing should be
adopted for typing the matter under this head. Standard symbols, abbreviations etc.
should be used.
6.10 Chapters: The Project must consist of following chapters
Introduction,
Literature Review
Present work (It can span in two to three sub chapters depending on the type and
volume of the work)
Result and Discussion
Conclusions and future scope
Appendix or Annexure-
References
 Each chapter should be given an appropriate title.
 Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of the reference
where they are cited.
 Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be typed single space and placed directly
underneath in the very same page, which refers to the material they annotate.

References: The reference should be given at the end of the Thesis in alphabetical order
Indicating:
1. The authors name and his initials
2. The title of the paper and name of the journal
3. The name of the book and the publisher
4. The number of the volume, page numbers, and the year of publication
5. standard abbreviation may be used in the names of the journals

The project should be prepared on good quality white paper preferably not lower than 80 gsm.
Standard A4 size (210 mm X 297 mm) paper should be used for preparing the copies. The Final
project should have the following page margins:
Top edge: 1 inch (25 mm)
Left side: 1 ½ inch (38 mm)
Bottom edge: 1 inch (25 mm)
Right side: 1 inch (25 mm)

TYPE-SETTING, TEXT PROCESSING AND PRINTING


The text shall be printed employing LaserJet or Inkjet printer, the text having been processed
using a standard text processor. The standard font shall be Times New Roman of 12 pts with 1.5
line spacing. The text must be 1.5 lines spaced and printed on only one side of each page.

Text
The text must be divided into a logical scheme that is followed consistently throughout the
document. The larger divisions and more important minor divisions are indicated by suitable,
consistent headings. Chapter organization as practiced by the discipline should be followed.
The student and the academic department are responsible for the quality and content of the text.
Specific requirements for text presentation are given below.
1. Headings and Subheadings
The student may use headings and subheadings to subdivide chapters or sections, but a
consistent sequence of headings as identified in the style guide selected must be followed.
The student may not change the sequence and style of headings from chapter to chapter.
Once the sequence is chosen, it must be followed consistently throughout the project.
2. Pagination
Lower-case Roman numerals are used to number all pages preceding the text. Although
the preliminary paging begins with the title page, no number appears on that page. The
page immediately following the title page is numbered with a lower- case Roman
numeral. Beginning with the first page of the text, all pages are to be numbered with
Arabic numerals consecutively throughout the thesis document, including the appendix
and the bibliography or list of references. The Arabic numerals must be positioned at the
bottom of the page, centered between the margins. Page headers or running heads may
not be used in the project.
