INTRODUCTION
What we do?
Bespoke Patterns specialize in pattern cutting and we can also provide sampling and garment manufacturing.

What is a pattern?
A pattern is the template from which the parts of a garment are traced onto fabric before being cut out and assembled. Patterns are usually made of paper, and
are sometimes made of sturdier materials like paperboard or cardboard if they need to be more robust to withstand repeated use.

Why are patterns needed?

In order to create a garment, a seamstress or manufacturer will need the patterns for your required design to cut the fabric and assemble your garment together.
Once you have a pattern created for your design, it can be reused repeatedly (regardless of how many garments you create). This means that once you have a
pattern for your design created, you can use it to produce any amount of garments needed at the production stage.

What is the process of making a pattern?

We use a flat-pattern method. This is where the entire pattern is drafted on a flat surface from measurements using rulers, curves and straight-edges. Usually, flat
patterns begin with the creation of a block pattern, a simple basic template pattern used to establish overall fit and measurement (without any design features).
Final designs are usually then drafted form block patterns. However, block patterns are not compulsory but it is usually advised if you are creating multiple
designs for consistent measurement and fit through your range.

What do we need to make a pattern?

Ideally, a technical pack is used to create a pattern. This includes a technical drawing, a precise and detailed flat drawing of a design that show the measurements
and all design details. Alternatively, We can also work from existing garments or existing patterns (Any alterations must be stated in writing with measurements).

What is pattern grading?

Pattern grading is the process of shrinking or enlarging a finished pattern to accommodate the finished garment to people of different sizes. Grading rules
determine how patterns increase or decrease to create different sizes. Fabric type also influences pattern grading standards.

What we do not do?

Although we offer pattern cutting, sampling and batch production, we do not offer fabric sourcing, embellishment services or logo embroidery / screen printing.
However, if you can provide us with your logo as a cutout on heat transfer paper, we can apply logos to garments under a heat press machine.

SAMPLING

• We work closely with a team of garment machinists to provide garment sampling.

• After patterns have been created and all fabrics and trimmings have been provided then the design is ready
to be sampled. We do not provide fabrics or trimmings, all fabrics must be provided to us in order to sample
the required design. This includes outer fabric, lining and all trimmings such as zippers, poppers and buttons.

• Sampling is recommended before proceeding to batch production to assess and confirm the final design as
well as make any necessary amendments.

• All details for garment construction such as insulation, quilting / wadding and fusing must also be given if
these are required.
BATCH PRODUCTION
We work closely with a team of experienced machinists to provide high quality batch production. All manufacturing and production is
done within London, United Kingdom.

THE PROCESS (3 STEPS):

CUTTING:
High quality equipment is used to complete this job. In this step, the fabric is cut from the pattern in order to make the
final design, Therefore you need a pattern before you can start the cutting process. Laser cutting machines are often
used rather than the scissors you would expect to cut the fabric, which results in precision cutting and the best finish to
the fabric.

MAKING:
The fabrics are then stitched together to create a finished piece of clothing. Precision machines are used to create the
garments, resulting in an absolutely precise finish. Often clothing will be finished by hand if there are extra touches
needed.

TRIMMING:
The garments are checked to make sure each one meets the quality standards required.
Once these three steps have been taken then the production process is complete. The three steps ensure that the
clothing is manufactured to the same quality standards throughout the production process.
TIME SCALE
PATTERNS:
• We aim for 1 – 2 weeks turnaround for pattern cutting. It can take up to 3 weeks on some occasions.
• If you are working on a range of designs or a collection, it is advised to bring all of the technical drawings
together so we can work through the range of designs at once.
• We work on all patterns and garments as efficiently as possible while still ensuring a high quality of work so
Please ensure sufficient time for pattern cutting.

SAMPLING:
• Sampling a garment usually takes a further 1 - 2 weeks once fabrics are provided, this is dependent on the
availability of our sample machinists which can be confirmed on request.

PRODUCTION:
• This is largely dependent on the number of units that is required for manufacturing. It is recommended to
allow up to 4 weeks for batch production. This can also be confirmed on request.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
• All garment patterns are completed to a professional industry standard and can be used by any seamstress or
manufacturer to construct a high-quality garment.

• Our skilled pattern cutters and sewing machinists ensure that your garments will be constructed with care and
precision, paying close attention to detail at every stage of the production process from pattern creation to
garment construction.
