Title of the Project: Barangay-Based Supplementary Feeding Program
Outline of the Project Proposal:
In an effort to reduce the occurrence of malnutrition in the barangay, and help the youth to
obtain their most efficient way of living, we must introduce development programs and enhancement
activities. The most common problem in every community are foods most especially during times of
disasters and calamities wherein prices of commodities like food are in surge. Majority of the Filipinos
are suffering from hunger and are even starving to death. With the help of concerned citizens, the
government, organizations and foundation we can implement a program that could help our
community. Supplemental feeding program is the most outreached solution one could offer in a
community. Basically, it is the best preparation for preschool students in public school so as to
encourage healthy living through healthy eating. The success of this program will be measured after six
(6) long months. We will be able to see progress from the malnourished children as they gain weight.
Undeniably, six months is short to see progress, but this project also aspires to teach their families the
importance of budgeting and providing healthy foods at a very minimal costs.
Organizational Background
Organizational Chart:
Feeding Program Chairman
Survey and Identification Feeding Implementation Documentation, Monitoring
of Recipients Committee Committee and Evaluation Committee
Organizational Objectives/Goal:
To improve the nutritional health of students, to stimulate regular attendance and also to
introduce proper nutrition to children and their families. To educate parents on proper nutrition. To
formulate recommendations to improve the dietary management of moderate malnutrition. To assist
indigent children in their physical, mental and spiritual well-being that will allow them to perform
efficiently in and out of school and the community.
Project Activities/Program
Activity Program 1: Identification of the Feeding Program Recipients
Identify the children who badly need the assistance. To avoid bias, use the
Department of Health method of identifying malnourished kids. The barangay nutrition
scholar, a local public employee, knows this. I believe the community health workers know
this as well. There is a standard for anthropometric measurements for Filipinos based on
weight and height in determining malnutrition. This will also be your baseline in monitoring
the children every month. This is to check if you are successful with your program.
Personnel: Barangay Health Workers, Survey Committee Members
Resources: Children’s Nutritional Status
Activity/Program 2: Implementation of the Scheduled Feeding Program
This is the actual implementation of the feeding program where the
volunteers and children or recipients are gathered in an agreed area for the event.
Hence, there will be short programs to attract the attention of the participants and
short input regarding the importance of eating right and its relation to man’s well-
being. After which, the food distribution will follow while the recipients are falling in
line to take their turn.
Personnel: Feeding Program Implementation Committee members
Resources: Foods (porridge or pack lunch, fruits, etc.), identification slip
Activity/Program 3: Documenting, Monitoring and Evaluating
Monitoring and checking to ensure that the involved children continue to receive the
food as intended. Also, to check the progress or development of the height and weight of the
recipients.
Personnel: Documentation, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee Members
Resources: Attendance Sheets, Participants’ Record
Project Budget: Depends upon the gathered donations or funds to be used in this project
Evaluation of the Project:
Food for Education programs are one type of intervention used by policy makers and non-
governmental organizations as a social safety net in developing nations to aid in several policy areas.
These programs are believed to be effective because of the ability of the interventions to target a
specific population that is vulnerable – school-aged children. There are various modalities in which these
interventions are utilized to attain impactful outcomes on students and their families. This systematic
review looked at the role of Food for Education programs in achieving these outcomes.
It promotes the health and development of children . Lack of food or an improper diet causes
malnutrition among children. This in turn stands in the way of proper development of the children and
their activity. Barangay-Based Feeding program provides a healthy diet to children, though simple,
which facilitates their healthy growth and development. It keeps the children away from nutritional
diseases.
Conclusion: The road to a hunger-free Philippines may still be far from sight. But as long as
organizations like the youth-oriented groups and government continue to become part of
the solution by curbing malnutrition among the poorest of the poor, there is after all, hope
for children.
