Lesson/Topic/Activity: Lesson 1/ The Meaning and Importance of Tourism and
Hospitality Industry/ Activity 2
As I reflect, I learned the difference between tourism and hospitality and how they
are important to each other. Based on the lesson I discovered the relationship of
tourism and hospitality, tourism sectors relays to hospitality sectors because tourism
industry market the ranges of travel while hospitality provided accommodation of the
tourist. I discovered the origins of the words tourism and hospitality. First, tourism is
derived from the Hebrew word “torah”, which means studying, learning and searching.
Tourism is the act of spending time away from home to pursuit recreation have
relaxation and leisure. Tourism have suppliers that provide the market on how to
promote the tourism and hospitality. Hospitality derived from the Latin word “hospitare”
which means to receive a guest. Hospitality offer/ provide accommodation and facilities,
and they have to be hospitable to the tourist. They have big factors with each other and
they both benefit from it. Tourism and Hospitality is they contribute to the national
economy and promoting the development of the society because the more tourist visit
the Philippines the more foreign exchange rising that greatly affect to our economy and
our country is more prominent in terms of attractive tourist destinations and help our
country to improve. Tourism is not all about the sceneries but it also offers food and
cultural site because when we think tourism the first thing that comes to our mind is the
place sin one place. Tourism and hospitality cannot be separated like what I said they
benefit from each other and they help in serving and accommodate the tourist to have a
better experience when they travel without tourism hospitality can’t function because
tourism provide the travels while hospitality offer accommodations.
I learned the definitions of tourists and visitors from this lesson. A person who spends
at least 24 hours is considered a tourist. If a person spends more than 24 hours outside
their home nation, they are considered tourists. A visitor is someone who visits the
country to earn money. An excursionist is a visitor who stays for less than 24 hours at
the destination they are visiting. The difference between international and domestic
visitors discussed in this lesson, An international visitor refers to a person who is
travelling outside of his/her country while domestic visitor refers to a person who is
travelling within his/her own country. They are both visitors, but they have differences. It
also discussed the four element of travel consisting the distance, length, and lastly
purpose. The nature of the tour are domestic and international tourism, like the visitors
they have different in terms of the place they are travelling. This lesson help me to know
the importance and the characteristics of tourism and hospitality and how they benefit to
each other and how they help in our economy and industry
