“Most of us have heard about the term integrity, but, how can it be infused in the

workplace? What is the real meaning of integrity in the workplace? What does integrity in the

workplace look like? How can we practice integrity in the workplace? These are crucial

questions we need to ask ourselves to beware of integrity in the workplace.

Integrity, according to Chadwick, 2021 is the quality of being frank and having strong

ethical values. Integrity can be accounted for in many forms within the workplace. However, the

most important factors concerning the idea of integrity, according to Michael Page, 2022, include

upstanding character traits and ethics of work which include frankness, sound judgment, loyalty,

and trustworthiness. The best definition of integrity is “doing the right thing when no one is

watching you.” Let your words, actions, and principles guide you to conduct integrity in the

workplace. Therefore, having a high degree of integrity in the workplace implies that you are

reliable and trustworthy, work on openness and honest communication, and take sole

responsibility for your actions.

Ultimate integrity is based on values rather than personal gain. Therefore, employees

must maintain a high level of integrity at the place of work and at all times. As an employer, as

you start getting promotions, you must set yourself to have the highest level of integrity; it will

help you enhance a positive and conducive working environment with great openness. It will

help you in employing an ethical approach when making decisions.

Michael Page, 2022 argues that having integrity as a quality is advantageous to you in the

workplace and a vital virtue that helps you in individual development. If you show people that

you are trustworthy and that people can depend on you, it earns you respect and trust across

different age brackets, starting from your peers to the older population. Therefore, having

integrity can help your career growth, individual development, and overall success.

Some ways that can be used to demonstrate integrity in the workplace include respecting

and following all company policies to the latter; this includes time management, code of

dressing, and other principles of conduct. Moreover, always being ready to work shows integrity

in a person; some people go beyond their work limits to ensure that the company achieves its

goals and objectives. You have to set examples to lead others, and respect the opinions of your

colleagues or the management in the workplace, even if you disagree. It is also essential to

account for all your mistakes solely without excuses.

It is easy to notice forms of integrity in the workplace. For example, if John misses the

deadline for an important project as a result of his team members failing to deliver the expected

work, John takes full responsibility and accepts the mistake to be his instead of blaming the team

members; further, he conducts training to the members to reduce the reoccurrence of such errors.

Another example is Avis Budget Group, a transformed company highly driven towards

ensuring that all its clients are satisfied. All their employees are driven at their best and have

developed an outstanding record for the past years. They work together through teamwork to

ensure that they become the best vehicle rental company in the world. The group encourages

innovation, inclusion, ownership, and integrity, and they are customer-led. That is what integrity

can also look like, doing right no matter what.”
