THE WHITE SMOKE
“No one must know that I am ___batman______”, thought Bruce.

So one evening, Bruce went to have __dinner_____ at Gotham’s most ____expensive______ hotel
_______restaurant________. He _____ two __________ women with him, one on each __arm____.
After dinner, the __women______ wanted to ______ in the hotel ____swimming________ pool.
“It’s close,” said the waitress.
“Then I will __buy____ this hotel and _open_____ the swimming pool,” said Bruce. He
___jumped_____ into the pool with the two women.
__later____, when Bruce was ___leaving_____ the hotel with the two women, he suddenly saw
Rachel. She wore a ___fantastic______ _dress_____ and looked __beautiful_________. She was
just going into the restaurant.
“You haven’t ____change_____ much, have you, Bruce?” she said, “It’s all fun and no work for you,
isn’t it?”
“Hey, Rachel. This isn’t the real me”.
“The things you do are ___important_______, Bruce, not the things you say”. And she walked away.
Batman __went____ to see Sergeant Gordon.
“There was someone in Falcone’s office with him that ___night____,” he said. “He was testing the
_drugs_____. Do you know who it was?
“No, I don’t,” ___answer______ Gordon. “Dr. Crane from Arkham Asylum often ____visits____
Falcone. Perhaps it was him.”
“Yes, perhaps it was,” said Batman. “I think I’ll __go__ to the Arkham Asylum.”
“It’s not safe,” said Gordon. “It’s in the Narrows, a ____very__ __________dangerous part of
Gotham.”
“Not for me,” said Batman.
Batman __soon____ arrived at the Narrows. _____behind____ Arkham Asylum was a __dog____
____building_____. Batman went inside and ___find_____ a very __big___ ship’s ____box_. It was
_____push____ to open. At last he was able to pus open the top. __inside_____ there was a
_____machine_____- it was the ______ of a big car. Batman _____ the ________ on the box:
“WAYNE ENTERPRISES 471-ME”.
Two ___people_____ came into the building. One was a __ship___ worker. The __other____ was a
__man____ in a dark ___suit___. They didn’t see batman.
“What are the boss’s __orders_____?”Asked the man in the dark suit.
“We ___carried___ the machine here __until____ he’s ready”, said the ship ____worker___.
“___fine___,” ___say____the man in the dark suit. It _was____ Dr. Crane.
Batman suddenly ___falled___ from the box to the __floor_____.
“No, it isn’t fine,” he said. He hit the ship worker in the ___face___ and he __felt____ to the floor.
Crane ______put__ ____ on his ___mask___, and then he waved his arm at Batman.

A __cloud_____ of ___white____ ___smoke____ came out of his coat.
Batman’s __nose____ and __mouth_____ were suddenly on __fire____. He __starting_______ to
_see____ all the __worst_____ things from his _____life_ in front of his __eyes_____.
“I’ve felt this way _before_______,” he thought. “But ____where___?”
Then he _____remember_______- Ra’s al Ghul, the wooden box, the ___bats___, the
______building____ on fire…
He got to the __window______ on his __hands_____ and ___feet___.
Crane ___watched_____ him. “You’re going to die Batman”, he said.
Batman climbed ___slowly_____ through the window, up the ___wall___ and onto the ___roof____.
He pulled out his mobile __phone_____.
“Alfred”, he said. “Alfred, I-I __need____ you. ___please_____ come quickly. I’m ill. And I need a
__blood______ test”.
__terrible_______thoughts were now in Bruce’s __head____. He was at the ___show____… the
__bats____… his ___parents______… a __gun___… blood in the __street_______…
And then – _____nothing____. He __open______ his eyes. He was __home____, in his
_____bedroom_____.
Alfred came in.
“How __long____have I been asleep?” Bruce __asked_____.
“Two _days_____, sir,” answered Alfred. “It’s your ___birthday________ today”.
“It was the white smoke”, said Bruce. “___luckly______ there wasn’t _too_____ much of it. But I’ve
felt that __once____ before in my _life____. On the ____mountain______ in Bhutan. But this
___time___ it seemed much ___stronger_______”.
“I’ve got the __results________ of the blood test”, said Alfred. He gave Bruce a piece of
__paper______.
“It’s a very __dangerous__________ drug”, he said. “It can __kill___ people. But I know
_____someone______ who can “___make____ an antidote.
The ____next___ day, Bruce ___show_____ the results to Lucius Fox.
“This was in your blood?! He said. “You’re __lucky_____ you didn’t ___die__!”
“Yes, I’ve been very lucky”, said Bruce. “Can you make an antidote?”
“I think so”, said Fox, “but it won’t be _easy_____”.
“One __more____thing”, said Bruce. “Do you __know____ what Wayne Enterprise 47B1-ME is?”
“No I don’t”, said Fox. “But I can probably __find____ out”.
Sergeant Gordon went to ___see___ Rachel.
“Will Falcone go to ____prison____ this time? He asked her.
“I think so”, said Rachel. “It’s in all the _____newspapers_______”
“Batman __came____ to see me, Miss Dawes”, said Gordon. “He asked for my ___help___”
“Yes, I know”, said Rachel. “He ___came___ to see me too. We’re ___working_______ with a
__man____ in a mask, Sergeant Gordon. Perhaps he’s dangerous.”
“I don’t think so”, said Gordon. “He’s __done____ lots of good things _____already____”.

Gordon ___knew___ Bruce Wayne from the newspapers.

said.
“Who decided that?” asked Rachel.
