MAULANA AZAD MEDICAL COLLEGE GOVT. OF N.C.T OF DELHI, 2, BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR MARG, NEW DELHI-110002 INTERNSHIP REGULATIONS Internship is a phase of training wherein a graduate is expected to conduct actual practice of medical and health care and acquire skills under supervision so that he/she may become capable of functioning independently. Every student will be required after passing the final MBBS examination to undergo Compulsory Rotational Intemship to the satisfaction of the College Authorities and University of Delhi for a period of 12 months so as to be eligible for the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and full registration. Temporary Registration in DMC with respect to Internship: All the students who have passed the Final examination in December and are eligible to start the Internship with effect from 1% January, have to apply to the Delhi Medical Council for temporary registration and submit a copy of the receipt of the application submitted by them in Delhi Medical Couneil with the Academie Registrar within 15 days of declaration of their result, failing which appropriate action can be initiated including cancellation of their internship. With respect to those students who pass in the supplementary examination, the above rule will also be applicable which will be from the date of the result of the supplementary examination. Al parts of the Internship shall be done in the Maulana Azad Medical College and Associated Hospitals. No Intern will be permitted to do externship in hospitals within the NCR of Delhi. In case a student desires to do internship from other institutions within India, in any institution/hospital recognized by MCI for the purpose, permission must be taken from the Institute as well as University of Delhi at the beginning of the internship programme. However,permission may be granted by the University at any time considering the exigencies and merit on case to case basis. Intemship should be completed within the stipulated period of 1 year and not later than 2 years after passing the final year examination. University of Delhi may permit intemship beyond this period under extraordinary circumstances 8 INTERNSHIP — TIME DISTRIBUTION: As per Medical Council of India, vide notification No. MCI-7(1)/2008-Med.Miswe/3309 dated 22 November, 2008, gazette Notification No. MCI-34 (41) 2008 — Med./29527 dated 20.10.2008. Compulsory Community Medicine 2 Months Medicine including 15 days of Psychiatry 2 Months Surgery including 15 days Anaesthesia 2 Months Obstt./Gynae. including Family Welfare Planning 2 Months Paediatrics 1 Month Orthopaedics including PMR 1 Month ENT 15 days Ophthalmology 15 days Casualty 15 days Elective Postings (1 x 15 days) 15 days Subjects for Elective posting will be as follows: Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Radio-Diagnosi Forensic Medicine Blood Bank Psychiatry £; The schedule of posting of regular interns will be available on the MAMC website before 1° January(Regular Batch) and 1% April (Supplementary) of each year, Leave Entitlement of Interns i. The total number of leaves allowed (including all kinds of leaves for the year) is 12 days. ii) A breakup of leave that can be allowed during the period of internship of one year, subject o a maximum of 12 days during the entire Internship Program is as follows: a. Not more than 3 days will be permitted in a posting of 15 days b, Not more than 6 days will be permitted in a posting of 1 month c. Not more than 9 days will be permiitted in a posting of 1 % months d. Not more than 12 days will be permitted in a posting of 2 months e. For any leave/absence exceeding the above, interns will be required to repeat posting in that department. f. Leave must be entered in the internship booklet and signed by the unit incharge (a) If in any individual department, the intern exceeds his/her leave entitlement (as per serial numbers i, ii and iii above), he/she shall have to repeat the posting; for example, in a posting duration of 15 days, if he/she takes 6 days’ leave, then 3 days has to be repeated in that department. In a posting of one-month, if he/she takes 11 days leave, then 5 days has to be repeated in that department. It is therefore requested that the HOD may indicate the same in the assessment report. (b) Since the total number of leaves allowed for the year is 12 days, any leave taken in excess of 12 leaves will entail ‘repeat posting’. For example, if the total number of leaves taken is 19, then 7 days of posting has to be repeated. (©) the first 12 days permissible leave availed from the start of the internship will be considered as entitled leave. All the others will be treated as excess and repeat posting will be ordered accordingly. (@) NO_DUES: To avoid any unnecessary delay in clearance, a signed ‘No Dues’ Certificate should be taken by the Intern at the end of each posting from the concerned department. 9. REPEATING INTERNSHIP: ili v. 10. (a) An Intern must ordinarily complete his/her Internship during the scheduled period of Ist January to 31st December for Regular Batch and Ist April to 31° March (next year) for the Supplementary Batch. Repeating of Internship Training (in part or in total) would be done if, Unsatisfactory performance. Prolonged illness. Medical Certificate must be validated by a Medical Board set up by the Institution, where rotatory internship is being undertaken In pursuance of the Guidelines for Internship Training Programme as notified by the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, internship period prolonged due to extraneous reasons other than the above (i) and (ii) and taking extra leave beyond permitted leave the repeat posting will be done after 1 April . Leave taken beyond the stipulated entitlement, in pursuance of the Guidelines for Intemship Training Programme as notified by the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of ~—Delhi( also i on it's website i ip.pdf)the repeat posting will be done after 1% April, No Hostel accommodation shall be provided for the repeat period, However, in extra ordinary circumstances the institute may provide accommodation only if itis available, Assessment report a. All the interns would be assessed as per the prescribed Internship Assessment form (kindly see MAMC website), b.The assessment reports would be sent within 7-15 days of the completion of the period of posting of the intern, in one department to the Department of Physiology(nodal Department) for the Internship Programme. c. Based on the record of work and evaluation, the Dean/Principal shall issue certificate of satisfactory completion of training, following which the University shall award the MBBS Degree or declare him eligible for it. i. i) iii) General Instructions All interns must report to the respective departments on the J day of their posting, even if it is a Sunday or a holiday. Interns are advised to maintain a record of the leaves taken by them. Further, the status of the leave(s) taken by them in different departments as well as their assessment reports may be checked with the different departments. They should also ensure that their Internship booklet/log book is kept updated and duly signed by the competent authority. With respect to the elective posting, the interns have to submit their choice of elective posting to the department of Physiology well in advance, much before the commencement of their elective posting. It is requested that the concerned departments may allow the joining of elective posting in their department only on the basis of forwarding letter to the effect from the department of Physiology. Responsibility of the safe custody of the booklet rests on the Interns.
