Dungeon Soul Gameplay Scenarios

The document provides two examples of gameplay scenarios in the Dungeon Soul roleplaying game. In the first scenario, the characters encounter a boulder blocking their path and the Brave attempts to move it, while the Grey uses magic to command the boulder out of the way. In the second scenario, the characters are accosted by three brigands and engage in combat, with the Brave striking down one and the Grey's magic sealing another before being wounded by the final brigand, who is then defeated by the Brave. The examples demonstrate how skills, abilities, and dice rolls determine the outcomes of challenges in the game.

DUNGEON SOUL

Examples of Play
SCENARIO: The Grey and the Brave are travelling by wagon towards the Eastern
Wastes in search of the legendary Iron Pact, which guarantees the peace between the
Kingdom and the loose affiliation of states to the South.
EXAMPLE: The two mortals find their path across a valley floor blocked by a
boulder. The Brave steps up to move the boulder, which is hard for him. He starts with
a d6 skill die and steps it up twice, since he has a +2 in Strength, giving him a d10.
He then rolls 2d10 , taking the lower because the task is hard, and receives a result of
4 (setback). He can choose to move the boulder, but the strain would exert his body,
making him Wounded for the next few hours. Instead, he asks the Grey for assistance.
The Grey casts Command Major Earth, using their Spellcasting skill. This skill is d12, as
listed on their character sheet (d8 stepped up twice because of +2 Intelligence). The Grey
rolls an 8 - success. Their Spellcasting skill die degrades to a d10. The boulder
obediently moves out of the way and our heroes’ wagon can continue its journey.
~~~
SCENARIO: As they travel further into the Wastes, the heroes are accosted by a group
of 3 brigands wearing rags (0 A.V., Dex +2, knife strike wounds).
EXAMPLE: As the leader of the group, the Brave rolls 1d6+1, and the bandit leader
rolls 1d6+2 (If Dex is not listed for an enemy, assume it is 0). The Brave rolls a 4, and
the bandit leader rolls a 4. In the event of a tie, the players go first.
The Brave strikes using his spear, rolling a d12 thanks to their skill in Martial Weapons.
They roll an 8, and down a brigand. The Grey attempts to seal the other two brigands
by casting Command Major Earth again, but rolls a 4 - mishap. They can only seal 1,
and in the process knock themselves down, making them easy to hit.
The final brigand decides to attack the fallen Grey. The Grey rolls a d8 Evasion check
(base d6, +1 dex), but receives a 1, meaning that the Grey is now wounded. The Brave
rolls a 7 in his final roll, downing the last Brigand and freeing them to continue on their
way.
