BASKETBALL PROJECT
School rules:
The player must dribble the ball with one hand, IF the player ever stops dribbling and
holds tha ball with two hands, they must not continue to dribble and either make the
throw or a pass. I believe that this is important as it is one of the basics in basketball
and it prevents games from becoming unfair. It make the competition closer which I
believe is important in sports.
Fouls by illegal physicial contact. This includes: hitting, pushing, slapping, holding
and triping. This is also very important as safety should always be the first priority in
all sports and especially in schools. Having these rules, will prevent injuries from
happening.
Time restrictions. This is when a player has 5 seconds to do something with the ball
when he is holding it. If he fails to do so, the ball will be in the opposition team's
posession. This is important as it prevents time wasting. I think it is important as we
have limited time in school sports therefore wasting time is very annoying and
completely useless.
Different Techniques:
This is a photo of basketball These are 4 different types of
dribbling. We can see that the hands passes that a player can do. They all
are ontop of the ball and not the have their own benefits and are all
bottom as that would be a foul. used in different situations.

How to do the techniques:
Dribbling – The hand must never go under the ball when dribblin and it must always
be bouncing. To practice I would dribble around the gym and around obstacles and
cones. I would also prectice dribbling with each hand to practice this skill which can
help. When i would perfect that skill, i would move onto to practicing dribbling from
one hand to another. And the last thing I would do, is to try and dribble and put the
ball between my legs. This is already more advanced however it can master skills and
make the dribbling more precise. The practice would have to be step-by-step to ensure
that it really sticks.
4 different ways of passing – One passing method is to do a overhead throw, another
one is to pass from the chest and just push the ball forward. Another one is to bounce
it on the floor infront of the player making it easier to catch, and the last one is to pass
behind the back which can trick the opposite players. The only way to practice this is
to have another team mate and practice all of these 4 methods by passing to eachoter.
Practice each one multiple times until it is a good pass, meaning easy to catch and on
target.
Lay-up shot – This needs a lot of practice and I believe that main things to practice is
the jump, the toss, the runup and the aim. To get a good layup, it is best to jump high
enabling a smaller throw making it more likely to go in. That means that you must
also paractice tossing the ball when in the air as that needs to be precise. To get a
good jump and toss, you must also get a good runup to get the heigh and also a good
aim to have the ball go in the basket every time. It is very hard to perfect it but
practice is key to getting a good lay-up.
Set shot – A set shot can be very hard and it requires good aim and a proper
technique. This requires a lot of practice. Proper technique is to point toward the
basket and sort of flick the ball with your wrist to make it spin. Practice is key in this
throw and it must be done over and over again around different positions to practice.
Proffesionals still miss sometimes which shows how hard it can be.
Man to Man defence:
Man to man defence can be very effective in basketball. It basically means that each
player on the team covers another player on the opposite team. This makes it very
hard for the ball to be passed around which prevents the other team from scoring. Man
to man defence can be very hard as you do not know what the opposite team will do,
therefore you always have to be ready for sudden movements. I believe that Man to
man defence can be one of the most effective defenses, however it must be done
correctly for it to actually work. Man to man defense can be hard when your oponent
is much larger than you, as the ball can easily be manipulated around or above you
making it hard to defend. This is why the placement of certain members of the team
must go for certain members of the opposition team.
Fitness components used in Basketball:
Strength can be very important in basketball as you need it to throw the
ball and run and jump high. To train this with fitness, you can lift
weights, do squats(with weights). All of this will build up your muscles.
Muscular endurance is also very important in basketball as the balls will

be passed around all the time and they dribbling and throwing is also very
important. This means that you must train this as it will be very necessary
in the sport. To train this, you must just use the muscles when they are
under stress for a longer period of time. This will make them stronger
aswell as having a longer muscular endurance. The preactice can be very
tough as you eally have to pushh your body to the limit everytime that
you train. Not doing so, will not improve your muscular endurance at a
good rate.
