My artwork can be technically described as the Earth being in a heart-shaped
figure and is accompanied by two doves on the side. My main interpretation about my
artwork is that the heart-shaped Earth represents the general idea of love and
compassion to the world, while the dove is represented as peace. So, in that sense, I
think in order for us to achieve world peace we need to display love and compassion
with one another. I believe that love and compassion are the fundamental foundations
of world peace. This is the sort of compassion we must endeavor to build in ourselves,
and we must grow it from a limited quantity to an infinite amount. Unprejudiced,
spontaneous, and limitless compassion for all sentient beings is definitely unlike the
typical love that one has for friends or family, which is tinged with ignorance, want, and
attachment. The sort of love we should promote is the kind of love that can exist even
for someone who has harmed you: your enemy.
As eloquently stated by Dalai Lama, “Love and compassion are necessities,
not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.” We must look to the shared
humanitarian history of all nations throughout the world through the lenses of the virtue
of love and compassion in order for us to revitalize human ideals and achieve
sustainable happiness. May this writing and artwork serve as a timely reminder not to
lose sight of the human qualities that bind us all together as a single family on our world.
