C Reading
Read the text about a trip and answer the questions.

Lewis’s Holiday
I travelled with my family to St Ives in Cornwall for a weekend in the summer. We had an amazing
time and we saw many awesome sights.
We arrived in St Ives on a Friday afternoon. It was a long journey from London – almost five and a
half hours. We were all tired when we got there, but we felt much better when we saw our room
– it was really cool. From the window, you could see the sea and people surfing. I really liked that.
The bathroom was huge, too. The only thing I didn’t like was that my bed was very hard – my bed
at home is a lot more comfortable!
On the first night, we ate at a restaurant near the hotel. My meal was excellent. I don’t eat fish
very often but I wanted to try it because we were near the sea. It was delicious. The only problem
was that the restaurant was really busy and there weren’t enough waiters.
The next day, my mum wanted to visit an art gallery. I wanted to get an ice cream, but we had to
go to the art gallery first. It was boring! In the afternoon, we planned to go on a boat trip but it
was raining so we went back to the hotel.
Sunday was the best part of the trip because I had a surfing lesson. Surfing is quite difficult but
not as bad as it looks. By the end of the lesson, I could stand on the board for a short time. I hope
I can try it again one day! Have you tried surfing?

1 Where did Lewis go on holiday?

2 How long was the journey?
3 What was the problem at the restaurant?
4 Why didn’t Lewis go on a boat trip?
5 What does Lewis say about surfing?

Food Music Clothes People Sport

Maia Taka, 17, is from Auckland, New Zealand.

She writes a food blog called Maia’s Food.

Do you like cooking sweet or savoury food?

I like both! Sometimes I make dinner for the family. I love
making cakes, too.

What interesting food combinations do you like?

I really like sweet and savoury foods together. For example, I
make a delicious apple and peanut butter cake, and it’s very
healthy. I also love steak with chocolate sauce.

What’s your favourite recipe?

Definitely my grandmother’s recipe for spicy ice cream. It’s
very easy to make, and it tastes better than ice cream from the shop.

Do you or anyone in your family have a special diet or any allergies?

No, I eat everything! But my father is allergic to peanuts, my sister is vegan, and my little brother
can’t have dairy. So, I do have to think about them when I cook for the family.

What is a traditional dish from your country?

We eat food from all over the world, but there are some traditional dishes. Rewena bread is a
bread that has potato in it. We also eat raw fish – it’s very healthy. We put a special sauce on
fresh fish. It’s made from tomatoes, onions, salt and other things. Then we put it in the fridge for
