In some countries, a high proportion of criminal acts are committed by teenagers.
Why has this happened? What are the effects?
There has been a debate over the surge in young criminals' tendency, which is effortlessly
observed in several nations. From my viewpoint, this is due to the lack of family attention
and negative effects from social media. Without interference, these culprits may leave
deteriorated hallmarks to society and become the cause of shortage in our future workforce.
It is obvious that this problem is attributed to many reasons. Firstly, this situation stems from
parents’ failure in monitoring their kids caused by the burden of earning a living in such a
dynamic world accompanied with debates and economic instabilities. The case of Russia
and Ukraine is relevant here where the conflict between these two countries has affected
terribly not only the payment of fuel but also the value of food and basic amenities, causing
them to rocket. As a result, juveniles failed to receive the best moral education in their
childhood from busy parents. Therefore, they are lulled by extreme behaviors for the
purpose of catching attention of their ignorant guardians or meeting the needs of
overspending, such as vandalism or thievery. Secondly, technological development leads to
the extension of unmonitored social networks such as Tiktok or Snapchat. To be more
precise, this allows uncensored contents to grow as trends and get copied by youngsters, in
which immoral and illegal acts are parts of. Dat Villa, a Vietnamese Tiktok user, is a practical
example in this regard, as he was notoriously known for having a 15-year-old fangirl stealing
400 millions Vietnamdong from her step-father to donate to him. Despite having denied
receiving such a sizable amount of money, he admitted that he did accept a lion offspring
from this girl as a gift, which costs about 8 millions. This clearly emphasizes that the
indecent behavior of famous people has such a considerable effect on adolescents as they
may commit a crime just for attention and recognition. Thus it can be seen that the reduction
in the age of crime is the outcome of intrinsic education deficit and extrinsic impacts in a
technological era.
There are a myriad of effects from this trend, and they all tend to be detrimental. As a natural
outcome of the increase in young criminals rate, the likelihood of disgruntlement in the public
is worth-considering. Specifically, the punishment of teenage crime is alleviated in
comparison to that committed by adults, which gives rise to the victims’ dissatisfaction. A
point in Vietnamese criminal law is a fitting example here, as an adult commiting murder can
be imprisoned till death or be sentenced for a death penalty while a 16-year-old to 18-year-
old murderer would only be charged for 18 years at most. Additionally, this situation leads to
the decrease in quality and quantity of the future workforce. To be more specific, it is widely
understood that nowadays, children are provided with knowledge and techniques for
specialized jobs of futurity. Accordingly, the act of crimes committed by juveniles definitely is
going to disqualify them from these work opportunities, not to mention marking them as
burdens of society and eventually leads to economic depression. This is supported by a
recent article in the Youth Newspaper, which indicated that with the trend of such young
criminals, speciality like Artificial Intelligence may result in the lack of labor as for the fact
that the knowledge belongs to this field is concentratedly taught in highschool and university
whose subjects are gen Z.
In conclusion, the increase of young crime percentage is a considerable issue in the modern
world, which emerges from the deleterious consequences of not only improper education
from within the family but also the failure of authority in monitoring the growth of technology.
Impacts of this are detectable as the possibility of causing unsteady society as well as
shortage in future workload, which all need to be effectively supervised.
