Metabolic Disorder Assignment

(1) Hydrozoic acid is a metabolic poison that interferes with cellular respiration by inhibiting cytochrome c oxidase, blocking electron transport and ATP production. (2) This prevents aerobic respiration and forces cells to undergo lactic acid fermentation before they die. (3) Hydrozoic acid can also cause mutations and be dangerous to humans, plants and animals. Neutralizing it with sodium hydroxide produces toxic azide salts that must be safely disposed of.

Metabolic Disorder Assignment

The metabolic poison that affects cellular respiration is known as hydrozoic acid it interferes

during the process making it hard for the cells to use oxygen in cellular respiration. (1) During

the mitochondrial respiration in the cellular respiration this poison is a potent inhibitor therefore

it blocks cytochrome c oxidase by binding between the heme a3 iron and CuB in the oxygen

reduction site. (2) This poison prevents the transport of electrons from working in the

cytochrome. During this process ATP stops production and once that stops the cells are forced to

do anaerobic respiration making lactic acid and then finally dying. To summarize it makes it hard

for the cells to take in oxygen eventually killing the organism. (3) Hydrozoic acid also affects in

mutations in the organisms making it very dangerous for human beings plus plants and animals.

When there is a slight change in the pH of a large part of respiration then there is a poison or an

acid active in the cellular respiration therefore this means that when the pH is higher than

optimum the enzymes that helps catalase reactions will denature and will not be able to help

catalyze the reaction and eventually the whole process will break apart and not work unless

something is done. (4) There are some ways that hydrozoic acid can be quenched or neutralized

in cellular respiration one of the examples are: It can be neutralized by the help of sodium

hydroxide but, azide salt produced in this was can be very toxic and they should never be

disposed as it so they need to be broken down and then disposed. (5).
