ABOUT THE SURVEY
The Global DJ Census 2023, conducted exclusively by Digital DJ Tips in December 2022/January 2023,
was completed by nearly 20,000 DJs worldwide, meaning it remains the biggest such survey anywhere in
the world.
This audience is primarily hobby DJs, and the census is offered to DJs on our DJ school email list, and the wid-
er DJ community via our website, socials, and paid advertising. Completion is incentivised by a fantastic prize
draw, which this year we simplified into four big prizes, with the kind support of Pioneer DJ, Denon DJ, Rane,
Focusrite Novation, Alto Professional, ADAM Audio and Numark.
The reasons for undertaking this huge endeavour each year are three-fold. Firstly, we obviously want to
gather this information to ensure that we best serve our students, readers and viewers in the year ahead,
producing courses and content tuned in to what they want help with. Secondly, we want to give both the
wider industry and the DJing world the same insight into the state of DJing right now, to help us all better
understand the world we move in.
And thirdly... we want DJs to get this info, too!
Who doesn’t love flicking through the results of a good survey? While these continue to be strange and
fascinating times, one thing shines through: DJing is a strong choice as a hobby, with many people of all ages
taking it up, but notably a considerable number of people doing so (or returning to it) later in life. It does
appear that DJing is taking its place alongside hobbies like guitar playing, drumming and the other
“traditional” musical pursuits as a life-long choice for people for whom it is important to express themselves
through music.
