ABSTRACT

Self-discovery, school errands, and educational achievements are all part of a student's life. However,
not all children are able to attend school while still meeting their fundamental necessities. As a result,
becoming a working student is now the norm and Calhoun (2017), stated that Learners frequently work
part-time jobs to augment their income while they study furthermore (Becker,1964) explained that
Student employment can help students improve their knowledge and abilities in preparation for their
future careers. The focus of this study is mostly on working students' actual experiences amidst
pandemic on how they deal and respond to the difficulties of being a working student in the midst of the
pandemic. This study is a Qualitative study which uses an Interpretative Phenomenological
Analysis(IPA) as the Research Design furthermore the study follows the questionnaire's structure in
order to get consent and data for the study's advancement.

Working students come with a lot of obligations as students experience a lot of challenges that make
them want to give up at times, however Tuttle and Lederman (2005) highlighted that working while
studying may help one thing while damaging another and the research had shown that many of the
students in this study have overcome various obstacles and exhibited their tenacity throughout the year
with the help of their parents and their commitment to finish their education by working.

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Working while studying is an uneasy arrangement for [Link] achieve a good academic
performance and earn at the same time requires perseverance and extra [Link] to Mitchell
(2016), being a working student can be stressful mostly in balancing quality time with the family, academic
loads, social life and [Link] the other side, student employment can enhance students knowledge and
skills for their career path (Becker,1964).

Part-time jobs are common among students in order to supplement their income while studying;
for low-income students, this is often essential. Students who are desperate enough may enter stressful
and toxic work environments (Calhoun,2017). Covid 19 affects many working students in the present
time (2021) approximately 876,225 is positive in this case in the Philippines. Many of the students enter
the field of working while studying to support their studies and daily needs stated by Tuttle Lederman
(2005) .According to Parks-Yancy (2012), most low-income parents expect their children to contribute
financially and emotionally to the household while they are not in class or doing homework. Families
assume that working students have a lot of free time which is actually the opposite.

The COVID19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the global labour market, particularly among
nonstandard workers. During this pandemic, layoffs and suspensions of workers have increased
dramatically, particularly among nonstandard workers in fulfilling our government strategy such as ECQ,
GCQ and MECQ on confronting the pandemic.

This study aims to have an in-depth analysis of the experiences of working students amidst
pandemic, to acknowledge their efforts in pursuing education while working and to explore how the
students cope up with the difficulties they've been experiencing. Lastly, this study aims to provide a
solution that may help the working students.

Statement of the Problem

This study sought to answer the following questions:

[Link] are the experiences of working students amidst the pandemic?

[Link] difficulties have you experienced as a working student during this pandemic?
1.2 What are the advantages of these experiences while working and studying?
[Link] are the challenges that you've encountered as a working student during this Pandemic?
2.1 How do these challenges influence your academic performances?
2.2 How do you manage your time while studying and working?
[Link] do you respond to the obstacles you’ve experienced as a working student amidst the pandemic?
3.1 How do these obstacles affect you as a student?
3.2 What are those obstacles you have experienced and how do your parents respond to you
being a working student?

Assumptions
There are certain reasons why students apply for a job and most of it is due to the financial
[Link] while studying can also enhance the student skills that are related to their future career
(Furr and Elling,2000). By conducting this study, the researchers made up the following assumptions:

1. With the lived experiences of working students, this study will provide the facts about their
struggles that influence their studies.

2. The respondents are expected to share how they cope up with the obstacles of this uneasy
arrangement.

1
3. It is assumed that the respondents will answer the questions accurately and [Link]
researchers are expecting to get enough and detailed outcomes from the respondents and are
capable of giving recommendations on how to deal with this kind of arrangement.

Scope and Delimitation

This study focuses on the lived experiences of Senior HighSchool Working Students from the
selected school in Cavite amidst the pandemic and how these students cope up in working while
studying. This study aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of the living conditions of working
students, amidst the pandemic. This research conducted a virtual interview as part of this study to collect
information about the selected participants. Due to the pandemic, only a few students are working while
studying, so the number of participants in this study was reduced.

Significance of the Study

The following could benefit from this study:

Students - This study can provide insights regarding the condition of being a working student amidst the
pandemic to help the working students better understand the field of working while studying and also
raise awareness so that students can support their classmates who are in the field of working while
studying amidst the pandemic.

Parents & Guardians - This study will make the working students' parents and guardians aware of their
lived experiences so that parents can give consideration and support to their children.

Department of Education - This research would shed light on the working students' perspectives and
include insights that will aid in their understanding and development of new approaches in dealing with
working students amidst the pandemic.

Department of Labor and Employment - This study would give insight on the experiences of working
students and provide observations that would help in their understanding and creation of new approaches
to coping with working students in the face of the pandemic.

Future Researchers - They'd be able to use the details from this study to do an analysis or extend
studies in the subject of Working students amidst the pandemic.

Definition of terms

Cope - Verb and it means to deal successfully with a difficult situation.

Comprehensive - Comprehending or thoroughly understanding with one's mind
Havoc - Widespread destruction.
Monetary - Relating to money or currency.

Balancing job and Academics as a Working Students in the Philippines
According to Karl Nicole Nucum (2018), throughout the long term, the idea of "work-study
balance" has been a continuous battle for working understudies. While there can be various elements
included, monetary emergency is as yet the essential motivation behind why understudies participate in
time (or regular) positions. Running from school to work and shuffling scholastic necessities and
side-hustles while keeping your family, social, or love life under wraps is a genuinely overwhelming
undertaking.

Foreign Literature
The Experiences of Working While Studying: A Phenomenological Study of Senior High School
Students
According to the research of Abenoja, Accion, Aguilar, et al., (2019) financial support,
self-development, and internal motivation to integrate theory and practice are observed among the driving
forces of students working while studying.

The research results also show that the participants have a positive attitude and good time
management [Link], it demonstrates that the effective methods of overcoming the problems
they encountered are achieved through effective time management and self-reflection.

Local Studies
The Lived Experiences of Working Students in Western Leyte College
Brea Kayla Tajos (2019) stated that working and studying at the same time is difficult for working
students for the reason that the time spent on studies and work must be balanced. Students are
responsible for two things: putting in a lot of effort on the job and keeping a consistent academic
performance in class.

Students who work to support themselves are mostly from low-income families. Tuttle, Lederman
(2005) explained that going to work while studying could have a beneficial impact on one thing while
having a negative effect on another.

Foreign Studies

TWO IN ONE: STRUGGLES OF A WORKING STUDENT

The research conducted by Gutierrez, EvanImperial, VonManuel, et al.,(2018) stated that being a
working student entails a lot of responsibilities. They face a lot of challenges that sometimes make them
want to give up, so it takes a lot of effort and investing so much of the mental and physical energy that
can quickly make them fatigued, stressed, or both. In terms of academic performances.

Working students have struggled with the concept of "work-study balance" for many years. While
there could be a variety of factors involving the primary reason why students take on part-time or full-time
jobs is the financial crisis. (Nucum, 2018)

3
Theoretical Framework
The Human Capital Theory ( Becker,1964) stated that student employment can give provision for
students educational [Link] employment can enhance the students knowledge and skills such as
communication, time management, responsibility and learning how to deal with the authorities. The Human
Capital Theory is a theory that affirms how education can increase productivity and competence of
workers by increasing the cognitive stock of productive human capability (Woodhall,1997).

Synthesis
For several years, working students have struggled with the idea of "work-study balance."
Working and studying at the same time is challenging for working students due to the need to balance the
time spent on studies and jobs. Students must do two things: put in a lot of hard work on the job and
maintain a high level of academic performance in class.

Working as a student comes with a lot of responsibilities because they face several difficulties
which make them want to give up sometimes, but Tuttle, Lederman (2005) explained that going to work
while studying could have a beneficial impact on one thing while hurting another. Brea Kayla Tajos (2019),
stated that employed students are more self-assured and have better time management skills than
students who are not employed. Working also provides students with independence, preparation, and
experience. According to studies, they are more accountable to others.

METHODOLOGY

Research Method and Design

This study is a Qualitative study which used an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis(IPA) as
the Research [Link] (2017),stated that Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis focuses on
explicit lived experiences of an [Link] is a qualitative approach in which researchers explores how
the participants understands their social world and how they give meaning to their lived experiences
(APA). This research design is adaptable for this study which seeks to analyze the lived experiences of
working students amidst the pandemic.

Sampling Technique
The respondents of the study are chosen using the Purposive sampling technique of Patton,
(1990) it was asserted that Participants are selected for a specific reason, the researchers picked their
respondents to suit a very particular purpose, knowing the daily life experiences of working students
amidst the pandemic. Working students are often described as someone who works full-time and studies
part-time. (Randstad, 2020). The participants of the study are required to be actively working students
during the pandemic. The researchers selected five respondents to provide their own authentic
experiences.

Research Instrument
The researchers used structured interviews as a qualitative research method where the
interviewers' questions are planned and created in advance to lay a standardised interview schedule and
questionnaires (Zojceska, 2018) in which the respondents read out precisely as worded. McLeod (2018),
explained that the researchers will use a series of questions to gather information from the participants
which can be done in phone call , computer or post, it can be a close-ended or open-ended question.
Creswell(2012), stated that open-ended questions are asked during interviews so that the participants
can elaborate their answers [Link] researchers used open-ended questions for an in-depth
analysis depending on how the participants answered.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will state the progression on how the researchers gather the [Link] (5)
interviewees were chosen on purpose, based on the requirement that respondents will be working
students from various schools, around Cavite.
The researchers spent a significant amount of time and effort developing efficient questionnaires for
the selected participants. Following the composition of the questionnaire to obtain consent and data for
the progression of the study. The researchers will conduct a virtual individual interview with the
respondents and inform them beforehand. The respondents are accountable to observe, to take note, and
document the conducted interview. An interview was conducted to collect evidence in order to affirm the
reliability of the data. The researchers will also inform the respondents about the significance of their
participation in the study.
Afterwards, the respondents will answer the surveys and interview. The researchers will ensure a
total number of participants, which is five working students. Then, the data will be tabulated and analyzed
by the researchers.

5
Data Analysis Procedure
The researchers transcribed the video recorded interview to interpret the statements of the
respondent's in the study. The researchers also make use of the process of categorizing which is referred
to as "coding." Remigiusz (2019), It was explained to be a process of identifying passage in a text or other
data items searching and identifying concepts and finding relations between them, in line with the
response of the participants the researchers also concluded the concept of Interpretative analysis and
lastly in addition to interpreting the statements of the respondent's the researchers will make use of
thematic analysis. Jack Caulfield (2019), explains that it is the approach for evaluating qualitative
thematic data analysis. It's typically used to describe a group of texts, such as interviews and transcripts.
The researcher analyzed the data carefully in order to find identical trends of the study.

Table 1. Participant No. 1: Struggles

The summary table shown above was the interview of participant 1 a.k.a Struggles. There are three
themes used in the table which are Challenging, Difficult, and Distracted..

The first theme is Challenging in which the lived experiences of the participant were expressed as a
person who keeps on striving even in the midst of uncertainties. Under this theme, there are two sub
themes, these are Heavy and Convenient.

The next theme is Difficult. In this theme the participant shared his perspective as a working student .
Negative and Hard are under this theme.

The last theme is Distracted. In this theme the participant expressed his feelings towards his situation
and how his household responded to it. Unmotivated and Confused are the sub themes for this theme

The little light was chosen by the researchers to represent Participant 1. Participant 1 is surrounded by
darkness,he is facing his own battles in life and neglects to notice that he,himself, is the little light in the
darkness. The researchers observed how the participant aims to help his family in the best thing he can
do. No matter how dark the path he's going to take he is willing for the sake of his family.

BALANCING IN- VIVO STATEMENTS SOURCE

“Yung time siguro, kasi diba

Table 2. Participant No. 2: Perseverance

The summary table shown above was the interview of participant 2 a.k.a Perseverance. There are three
themes used in the table which are Balancing, Persistent, and Hard working.
The first theme is Balancing in which participant 2 shared how she handled her situation as well as the
advantages of being a working [Link] the balancing theme are Time Management and Useful
that serves as the sub themes.

The second theme is Persistent. This is where participant 2 stands for her purpose as a working

The last theme is Hardworking in which participant 2 shared how her situation affected her as a student
and still getting support from her family. Busyness and Supportive are the sub themes.

Symbolism

The researchers chose the moon to symbolize the Second Participant. The moon is surrounded by
darkness, and it is independent. Participant 2 doesn’t have parents to rely on, whenever she needs too,
and that makes her a more independent and strong woman. Because in the very first start she
encouraged herself not to look at the bad side, instead to look at the positive side of her situation.

RESPONSIBLE IN- VIVO STATEMENTS SOURCE

na nararanasan bilang working
student kasi iba yung sa trabaho
iba rin yung sa school tulad ng
kailangan namin hatiin yung oras

12
“Oo actually ngayon parang ayaw
maganda ganda naman yung work
na mamahanap ko yung mahirap

Table 3. Participant No. 3:Tree

The interview of participant 3 a.k.a. Tree was summarized in the table above. The table contains Three
themes: Responsible, Determined, and Reliable.
The first theme is Responsible, in which the participants' characters were expressed as someone who
takes initiative and executes their work with a ready heart. Tough and Diligent are two sub themes that
fall under this umbrella theme.

Determined is the second theme. This is the point at which the participant hoped to finish the race and
get a good result. Temperance and Resolution are two sub themes under this theme.

Reliable is the final theme. This is where the participant displayed his desire to assist his family and
himself in completing his education while also contributing to family obligations. The two sub themes that
are shown in this theme are Control and Compassion.

ENDURANCE came to be the most highlighted modality among the others that was
[Link] is the capability of continuously doing something that is challenging and agonizing
for a long time without giving up (“Endurance”,2021).For general question no. 2, the researchers got a
superordinate theme of PROGRESSIVE to answer the question no. 2, What are the challenges that
you've encountered as a working student, during this Pandemic?Progressive is defined as an
advancement, going forward, moving onward, characterized by striving for change and innovation. (Jazz,
1908) and the challenges that the participants encountered made them progressive in their works and
studies during this time of pandemic. Lastly, for general research question no.3, How do you respond to
the obstacles you’ve experienced as a working student amidst the pandemic? STEADFAST is the
superordinate theme for general question no. 3 and it means firm in adherence to whatever one owes
allegiance, not subject to change and firmly fixed in place (Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary,
1828).

Conclusion
This section closes the gaps of the research paper.

The researchers were able to decide and classify the results that addressed the general research
questions in accordance to the findings of this study.

1. Among the modalities listed, ENDURANCE appeared to be the most prominent.

2. Endurance became the foundation of the working students to be PROGRESSIVE in their works
and studies.
3. The students' progressiveness leads them to be STEADFAST in their roles both in schooling and
working that keeps them on striving.

RECOMMENDATIONS
This part shares the future concerns for the following institution/unit:

Senior High School Working Students. To give them an overview on how other working students face
the challenges of being a working student amidst pandemic.

Senior High School Teachers. To give provision to them with guidance on how to make an approach on
working students during this pandemic.

Department of Education. To take into account the real-life experiences and preferences of working
students when making a decision that is appropriate for their situation.

Public School Communities. People in public schools should consider descriptive analogies of human
experiences to raise the morale of working students within their institution.

Audio/Video-grapher: Tre-inta Merilyn
Interviewee (codename): J*** E**** F********
Settings: 9 May 2021 / 1:00 A.M. / Zoom Meeting
Type of Interview: Video Recorder

1. [Link] good morning sir, thank you for participating in our research (move
2. hands) and thank you for allowing me to record this interview and I assure you naman po
3. na ahmm magiging controversial itong interview na to and we will keep your identity din
4. po as controversial and ayun the purpose of this interview po is to fulfill our requirement
5. on our PR1 subject po and ayun ahm I will ask you some questions and I hope that you
6. will answer me po with integrity and honesty (wink**) so ayun if may tanong ka po or what
7. before I started asking you (wink**) feel free po to Answer, may tanong (stops**) ka po ba?
8. Wala po.
9. Wala? Sige. Ayan (kamot sa mukha**) yung first question ito, ahmmm what difficulties do
10. you experience as a working student during this pandemic?
13. Hmmmm..ano yon ahmm yung trabaho mo ba (tumingin sa taas) ahh nasasagi rin yung
14. oras ng class mo ganon?
15. Oum, kasi mula 8:30 hanggang,8:30 a.m hanggang 8:30 pm ganun yung pasok ko sa trabaho
16. Ahh.. tapos yung class mo ano (stops**) online learning ka or modular?
17. Online
18. Ahhhh..ibig sabihin nag ka-class ka talaga ng weekdays(wink**)anong oras class mo?
19. Ahmm..8 am to 4 pm
20. Ohhh (nods**)so weekdays yon tapos yung schedule ng trabaho mo?
21. Wa-wala akong rest day,straight.
22. Ahhhh! So monday to sunday yon?
28. Mmmm..mmm..
29. (nod**) thank you, ayan next question, what are the advantages of these experiences while
30. working and studying,so paano nakatutulong sayo or ano yung pwedeng benefit po ng
31. Pagiging working student mo during this pandemic?
36. (interrupts**) nagtatrabaho
37. nagtatrabaho is yung parents mo? Specifically yung tatay mo? (unnecessary noises**)
38. Mmm..mmmm
39. Hmmmm..gets,thank you! Ayan next question, syempre ano as a working student, as in
40. hindi na bago na may mga challenges ka na nararanasan or na eencounter and yun as a
41. student how do these challenges influence your academic performances, paano niya
42. naapektuhan yung academic performances mo as a working student during this
43. pandemic?
46. Alanganin.
47. Ahhhhh..so ibig sabihin yung nagiging (stops**tumingin sa kaliwa**) outcome ng
48. academic performances mo is hindi ganun kagandahan?Tama ba?
49. Mmmm..mmm..
50. Hmmmm..gets,thank [Link],next naman how do you manage your time while studying
51. and working?
52. Mahirap eh,walang time eh.
53. Paanong walang time? As in..(participant interrupted**)
54. Magka-magkaparehas kasi sila ng oras e.
55. Mmmm..
58. Hmmm..gets diba ahmm sabi mo kanina ano, yung time mo sa work same din sa time mo
59. sa class so paano ka nag c-comply or paano ka nag c-comply nung mga kailangan mong
60. gawin na related sa acads? (wink**)
66. works ganon since nga may trabaho ka.
70. Hmm..so ibig sabihin kulang ka nga sa tulog
71. Opo..
72. Hmmm.. so hindi ka rin nakakapag comply or hindi mo na rin nagagawa yung iba mong
73. activities dahil nga dun, dahil sa pagod dahil sa trabaho
76. Hmmm so ibig sabihin hindi ka nakakagawa ng mga school works mo kasi you’re
77. working..gets Thankyou..thankyou for sharing and ayan ahmm syempre as a working
78. student you’ve experienced obstacles or you’ve also encountered obstacles so ayan
79. ahmm another question.. How do these obstacles affect you as a student?
81. Hmmmm..yun nga mahirap kasi kapag pasahan na ng gardes nila ako lagi mababa.
82. So naging epekto sayo ng obstacles na naranasan mo is yun nga low grades..
83. Syempre minsan nakakawala rin ng gana.
84. Nakakawalang gana (nod**)
85. Hindi na rin ako nag-aaral minsan
86. Pero parang minsan ba pumasok sa isip mo na i give up yung isa sa kanila? (move hands)
87. either studying or working kasi nga (unnecessary noise**) it makes you tired and ayun
89. ayun dahil sa trabaho mo which is whole day yung trabaho mo and every day pa yon so
90. ayun parang did you (move hands**) ever think to give up at least one of those two?
91. Studying or working?
92. Both.
93. Both??!!..Bakit both?
101. Hmmm..[Link] You. Thank You for sharing pero ahmm speechless ako (smiles**)
102. wait [Link] mas pinili mong huwag i give up alinman sa kanila? Tama ba ko? Kasi
103. syempre you’re currently working and you are currently studying.
106. Tama. Tama naman (nod**)saka sabi mo nga rin kanina you want to help your family
107. and big help din talaga sa family mo na tumutulong ka sa kanila by working kaso on
108. the other side It affects your academic performances ,it affects you as a student.
110. Mental Health (nod**) paano and in what way siya nakakaapekto sa mental health mo
115. Hmm..so parang na ba blangko siya kasi pagod, andaming iniisip ganon
116. Oum..(Interviewer nod**)
117. Hmm..gets pero in that case paano ka nag c-cope up i mean kasi ayun nga sabi mo
118. working student ka so ano yung nag li-lift up sayo or nag momotivate sayo to keep on
119. working and to keep on studying at the same time (unnecessary noise**)
121. paano ba masasabi? Ang hirap i explain kung sino yung malalapitan mo.
122. Or pede rin na i don't know siguro opinyon lang na pwede rin na you keep on
123. going, you keep on studying, you keep on working because you feel like you need to
124. feelin mo kailangan mo siyang gawin feeling mo it's your responsibility or nagiging
125. routine mo na yung ganon pero It's good din to know what’s the purpose ayun alamin
126. mo yung purpose kung bakit ikaw nagtatrabaho or bakit ikaw nag-aaral (kamot sa
127. ulo**) I mean that purpose will fuel your eagerness to keep on going and ayun thank
128. you, thank you so much for sharing your experiences as a working student and ahmm
129. last question ahmm syempre by experiencing these obstacles and by encountering
130. these obstacles ano yung naging response ng parents mo sayo as a working student ?
133. madaling araw..ayun (interviewer nod**)
134. Na..na..
135. Sige go lang
138. So ibig sabihin tama ba ko? Diba sabi mo kanina natutuwa sila na you’re working pero
139. at the same time nagagalit sila sayo kasi nagpupuyat ka which is yung reason naman
140. nung pagpupuyat mo is yung acads mo din saka bakit parang if okay lang naman na
141. sagutin mo bakit sila yung nagiging reason ng problema mo minsan?
142. Kasi may iba pa kong pangarap na ayaw nila
143. May gusto kang gawin na ayaw nilang gawin mo?
144. Oum..
145. Hmmm..gets,gets thank you and ayun lang ahmm hala hindi ko alam kung paano ko to

1. Ayon, good morning po!

Usapan for research?
4. I’m Denard Glodoviza ‘yon, research leader ng team namen. ‘Yung research na ‘to ahm..
5. Before that pala, tanungin ko muna, anong gusto niyo pong itawag sa inyo? Your name or
6. nickname, ganon, ano ba?
7. Nickname na lang
8. Ano ba?
11. So, ayon start na tayo!
12. Ahm..
13. Ang title niya, “Pangarap ko, Tupad ko! A qualitative study about sa mga nararanasan ng
14. mga working students.
18. Since baka nahihirapan kayo or may na-eexperience kayo na medyo tumataliwas na sa
19. dun siya sa academic school year.
20. So, ahm. Start na po tayo!
24. Okay po!
25. So, unang question po ng interview namin!
26. What difficulties have you experienced as a working student during this pandemic?

38. Ah so, ay sige tuloy po kayo..
42. Hmm, ganun. Hindi tugma yung time niya.
43. Pero madalas naman po siya?
44. Opo.
45. Madalas? Okay!
47. Wala naman siya eh, pwede kang mag-paalam.
48. Sige, proceed na tayo sa next question.
49. May dadagdag ka pa po ba?
50. Ah wala na.
51. Okay, sige!
52. What are the advantages of these experiences while working and studying?
55. Advantages ng work ko sa pag-aaral ko?
56. Oo, ganon.
57. Siguro kasi ano, nagkakaroon ako ng sarili kong pera tapos nababayaran ko yung sarili kong
58. pangangailangan sa school.
60. Opo!
61. ‘Yung work mo po ba dinededicate niyo po ba sa pag-aaral mo or may iba pang financial
62. problems?
66. Opo, oo.
67. Next Question!
68. May dadagdag ka pa ba sa sagot mo or proceed na tayo next?
69. Ano po? Ah ayun lang, yun lang.
70. Next naten.
71. How do these challenges influence your academic performance?
72. ‘Yung pagwo-work mo or ‘yung mga problema sa work ganon, paano siya
73. nakakaimpluwensya sa pag-aaral mo ganon.
74. Siguro, pagpupursigi ganoon? Hindi ko alam.
75. Pagpupursigi ba saan sa pag aaral or sa pagtatrabaho?
83. Marami po.
84. Naimpluwensyahan niyo ba ‘yung pag tingin niyo sa pag-aaral?
85. Naimpluwensyahan ba ‘yung pag-groupings sa school, may assignment?
87. Hmm, parang hindi.
88. Ano po yon?
89. Ano ulit?
90. ‘Yung pagwowork niyo, hindi ba naiimpluwensyahan kung may group kayo or assignment,
91. hindi po ba naiimpluwensyahan ‘yung pag-aaral niyo?
95. Oww, so nag-aadjust ka na lang
96. May dadagdag ka pa ba or proceed tayo next question?
97. Next question na.
98. How do you manage your time while studying and working? Paano mo po siya
99. namamanage?
102. time.
103. Edi may time na pag pinapapili ka ng choice, may time na pumapasok ka, may time na
104. pumapasok ka sa trabaho mo? Ganon, nahahati talaga sya?
105. Oo.
114. Pero yung ano, alam naman ng mga teacher mo na nagwo-work ka or hindi nila alam?
115. Hindi sila, hindi. Hindi ko naman sinasabi.
116. So, hindi mo pinapaalam sa kanila?
117. Proceed na tayo next, or may sasabihin ka pa po?
118. Next na.
119. Okay, next question.
120. How do these obstacles affect you as a student?
121. Diba sabi mo yung time mo nahahati, ‘yung sa oras mo may time na hindi ka
122. nakaka-attend ng klase at work, ganon? Paano naapektuhan ‘yung pag-aaral mo, or
123. bumababa ba ‘yung grades mo, bakit?
126. gising trabaho agad kaya bumababa talaga yung grades. May time na sinasabihan na mag
127. drop ganun.
128. Ah so may time na winawarning ka nila mag-drop?
129. Opo.
136. yung oras.
137. So, wala kayong exact time pero nagbibigay yung mga teacher niyo ng pass, ganon?
138. Ah, puwede po ba namin malaman anong school kayo?
139. SLC.
140. SLC, ano po yun?
141. Dun lang po yun sa may Dasma.
142. May dadagdag po ba kayo or proceed na tayo?
143. Next na po.
144. Last question na ‘to!
145. What are those obstacles you have experienced and how does your parents respond
146. to you being a working student?
160. kaya yung time niya andoon.
161. Eh yung parents mo po, kasama niyo ngayon?
162. Ay, wala.
167. Sinasabi ko naman. Tsaka sa gabi kasi nakikita nila akong nag-aaral.
168. Ah so hindi 24 hours nandyan ‘yung parents mo?
169. Hindi, wala talaga sila sa bahay.
170. Ah, wala talaga sila.
171. Hindi ka naman nahirapan?
172. Nahirapan, umalis na ako ng school.
173. Napaisip o ginawa?
174. Ginawa.
175. E ano pong nangyari? Bumalik din kayo?
178. Ah so natigil ‘yung pag-aaral niyo nung 2nd quarter, peroo natapos niyo po yung 1rst
179. quarter?
180. Oo, natapos.
181. Hindi naman yung school niyo nagsabi na mag-stop ka or kayo talaga yung nag let-go
182. kase di niyo kinaya?
183. Oo, ako yung nag-decide. Tsaka kasi ano diba ngayong pandemic tinutulungan mo yung
185. kapag ikaw yung maaasahan. Okay lang ba yun?
186. Oww, sige sige!
Tapos may small gift
194. tapos matutulungan or big help din ‘to!
195. Yun lang!
198. Ise-save namen yung video, okay lang?
199. Ay okay naman!
200. Tatakpan na lang namin face mo
201. Okay naman!
202. Ay sige sige! Thank you, Princess!
203. Sige!

22. aaral tapos mabibili mo pangangailangan mo then makakatulong karin sa pamilya mo especially
25. Ahh yung kinikita nyopo bang pera ay ginagastos nyopo sa sarili nyo or may iba pa
30. Ok ok po third question po is How do these challenges influence your academic
31. Performances?

42. Oks oks po proceed po tayo sa question 4 How do you manage your time while working
43. and studying?
44. Sabi po is pano mopo namamanage or na babalance po yung time mopo habang nag
45. tratrabaho habang nag aaral.
52. Follow up question lang po ah may times na po ba na umaabsent kayo sa work mopo or sa
53. school mopo?
56. teacher pagbigyan nila yunng mga estudyante nag tratrabaho kase mahirap talaga.
57. Sige po hehe question number 5 po tayo,How do these obstacles affect you as a student?
60. nag tratranaho kapa kaylangan talaga pag isipan mo bawat kilos mo di mo talaga mag sasayang
63. May times poba na gusto mong igive up yung work mo or yung pag aaral mopo?
68. Proceed po tayo sa question number 6 hehe, What are those obstacles you have
69. experienced and how does your parents respond to you being a working student?
70. Sabi po is ano po yung mga obstacles na naransan mopo and pano po mag respond sayo
71. ang magulang mo po as a working student.

8. this pandemic? Ano po yung mga difficulties or paghihirap na naranasan niyo during this
9. pandemic?
10. Siguro yung mga ano.. Ahh, okay.
13. As a working student po yan?
14. Opo tapos sabay..
16. Sige po, next question po tayo!
17. What are the advantages of ay wait lang.. What are the advantages of these experiences
18. while working and studying?
19. Ano po yung mga advantages na naranasan niyo po while working and studying?
20. Ano ulit? Hahaha. Hindi kita maintindihan.
21. Sige po, ulitin ko po!
22. What are the advantages of these experiences while working and studying?
23. Ano po yung mga advantages na naranasan niyo po while working and studying?
28. on time yung pagpapasa mo ng mga schoolwork mo ganun, mababa pa yung grade mo.
29. Aww. Tanong ko lang po as a working student po ba, binibigyan po ba kayo ng
30. consideration ng mga teachers po as a working student?
33. ganoon.
34. Ay, thank you po, ate! Hehe
35. So, punta po tayo sa Question 3 po.
36. How do these challenges influence your academic performances?
43. Tapos fourth question po tayo!
44. How do you manage your time while studying and working? Paano mo po nababalance
45. yung time mo while studying and working po?
59. How do these obstacles affect you as a student? Paano yung mga obstacle na naranasan
60. niyo, pano po ito nakaka-affect sa inyo?
67. Okay po!
68. Next Question na po tayo no.
69. Ahm, number 6 na po ‘to.
70. What are the obstacles you have experienced and how does your parents respond to you
71. being a working student?
73. nag-rerespond sayo? Ano po yung mga sinasabi niya sayo as a working student?
82. As a working student po, napaka supportive po ba ng parents niyo?
83. Opo napaka supportive naman, suportado ng ano.
84. Last na po!
93. Hindi, hindi nakaka-abala.
94. Pasensya na po sa abala!
95. Thank you po!

17. Ah?
18. Amm… medyo chappy kasi ano ung later part ng sinabi mo? Am...di ko kasi ma intindihan
[Link] or Di mo gusto pwede naman tayong mag next question tayo sabihin mo
[Link].
23.A..okey sige sige.
[Link] mo kung medyo mabilis ako ha.. Para mabagalan naten
[Link], Oo sige, sige.
[Link] yung unang question, what difficulties have you experience as a working student during
this pandemic?
27. *moment of silence
28. Itagalog ko den ba? Or diretso na tayo?
29. Oki oki na so ano.. Ngayon… during this pandemic… ano yung mga difficulties na experience ko?
[Link] ba?
39. Oo as a working student
Like kase sa ngayon
[Link] aral at pasok sa trabaho amm… like ung pinaka difficulties ko nalang talaga is yung nag ta take

49.*moment of silence…
[Link] na or proceed po tayo next question?
[Link]..sige sige
[Link] yung.. Next question naten what are the advantages of this experiences while working and
[Link]
[Link] are the advantages ng pag trabaho at pag aaral ng sabay? Amm… diba nga panahon ngayon
[Link] wala tayong masyadong nagagawa like palaging nasa bahay naka upo and yung talagang
[Link]
[Link] pinaka advantage mo nagkakaroon kana experience ngayon palang uh….
[Link] sa work.
[Link] mo? Di naman sya bumaba?... (silence).. Kung.. cocompare sya sa dating grades mo? Sa
[Link] di kapa nag woworking student okey naman sya? Ngayon? O bumaba?
[Link] naman sya
76.A na mamanage mo pa…
[Link] mamanage
[Link] sige sige proceed tayo sa next question? (nod)Sige sige ayun kung may challenge kase
[Link] yun ih how do this challenge influence your academic performance, kunawari mag
Ung schooling mo ba online
[Link] or modulelar?....(silence)... online po ba yung schooling mo or modular?
[Link]….modular ako
[Link]… modular ka..
[Link]..
[Link] okey okey….sige.. Next question tayo.. Eto yung sa 4th question natin parang nasagot
[Link] na sya pero mas maganda kung mas mo explain mo pa siya dito, how do you manage your
[Link] while studying and working?.
101. ayun, how do this obstacles affects you as a working student, kunwari nag karoon ng mga
[Link] sa work tapos parang kailangan ka sa work ng whole day o kaya kung ano may
[Link] challenge amm… nagkasakit yung co-worker mo nga ayun tapos kailangan dalawang
[Link]…ayan wait? Naririnig moko? Parang humina ata signal?..hellow?. Ayun so ano ni ri risk
[Link] pagod kana?
[Link]…. okey.. Sige last question tayo, what are those obstacles you have experience and how
[Link] your parents respond to you being a working student?...(moment of silence).. Ung
[Link] pagiging working student mo? Sinosoportahan ka naman ng magulang mo?
[Link] totoo lang katulad sa last question ang ginagawa ko pag na woworn out ako mentally and
[Link] so suportado a ng magulang mo sa pagiging working student
[Link]
Tapos may small
[Link] study tapos matutulungan or big help din ‘to! Yun lang! Kung may idadagdag ka
[Link] , open naman ‘to!
133.(silence)..

SYMBOLISM

Participant No.1: Symbolism for the Researchers – LITTLE LIGHT

The little light in the darkness was chosen to symbolize Participant 1. Participant 1 is surrounded
by darkness,he is facing his own battles in life and neglects to notice that he,himself is the light in the
darkness. Even though he is surrounded by darkness he still has his own way to keep on going. He is
aware of the darkness and it doesn't hinder him to stop thriving though there are times that he is on the
verge of giving up.
Whenever these struggles are trying to conquer him,he always stands up and conquers his
struggles. His life was full of challenges and yet he used these challenges as an avenue to be the better
version of [Link] the forest of darkness he walked confidently with the little light as his hope. He did
not do it just for himself but he did it selflessly.
Participant 1 aims to help his family in the best thing he can do. No matter how dark the path he's
going to take he is willing for the sake of his family. Participant 1 has already come this far and yet he can
still go [Link] his life surrounded by darkness he has his light which he doesn't know he has is enough
to keep him going.
Participant No. 2: Symbolism for the Researchers - MOON

The Participant 2 will be symbolized as Crescent/Moon because she gives light to her dark
situation that gives a smile and cheerful energy to her family. In her life, she works hard because her
family isn’t by her side. Even though she had that kind of situation she still managed to stand and be a
good role model to everyone. Just like the moon that gives light and model to everyone together with the
star that shines so bright. Moreover, her dark situation doesn’t stop her from fulfilling her goals in life but
instead she uses this situation as a motivation to keep on going.
Participant 2 doesn’t have parents to rely on, whenever she needs too, and that makes her a
more independent and strong woman. Because in the very first start she encouraged herself not to look at
the bad side, instead to look at the positive side of her situation. Furthermore, participant 2 is trying to
become a center to her family just to give light to their dark situation like the moon, who gives light to find
the direction of a dark road. She had gone through a lot but she never let it stop or affect her study and
work because she knew if she showed weakness all of her effort will be wasted.
Lastly, our Participant 2 aims to help her Grandmother/Family. Her dark situation isn’t considered
as her hindrance but she makes it as her motivation (light) to reach her dreams in the future. So that's
why being a chosen one to be symbolized as a moon is very difficult but at the same time it gives hope to
every person who has a darkness past/situation
Participant No.3: Symbolism for the Researchers - TREE

Participant number 3 can be symbolized as a big tree. He serves as a guardian of their family
from floods of problems and penetrating heat of the sun. Participant 3 chose to be a working student and
no one has forced him to do so. Through this, he grows stronger and more reliable although sometimes
he feels weakened. He still stands firm for his family and for continuing his studies. like a tree no matter
how hard it is as long as it is alive it will keep on growing and growing until it's capable of warming us all
and protecting us from heat and flood of life.
He takes the importance of time and pushes himself to finish his studies to find a better work
environment. He knows how hard life is and takes part in family problems. His root is too deep and wide
that covers all his difficulties and only looks for improvement.
Participant number 3 believes that all works are worth it giving your whole effort in all things that
you do is important like a tree that doesn't know what the future holds there might come a typhoon, snow
or maybe a great summer but as long as it is alive it will do its very best to live and grow stronger.
- Participant 3
Participant No.4: Symbolism for the Researchers - CARABAO

Carabao symbolized a strong will, determination and hard work just like participant [Link] he
showed diligence and perseverance in working,Even though everyday he was tired from his work, that
didn't stop him from helping his [Link] also gives half of his salary to sustain the needs of the family
and also in his education. He doesn't think about the obstacles he goes through just to be able to work
for his family and in his [Link] participant 4 is full of determination to finish his study to have a better
life and a better future when the day comes.

Participant 4 also knows how to manage his time just to balance his study and work just like
carabao full of strength, full of determination to finish work and the hardship is the key to [Link] his
age he became an independent man and at the same time the breadwinner of his [Link] gain more
and more experience at his age that he can apply in the future when he’s journey start.
So that’s why participant 4 symbolizes carabao because the willingness of his heart to help his
family and at the same time his determination, strength, love, hardship and goals are the main reasons why
he still keeps on fighting in life.
Participant No.5: Symbolism for the Researchers – MUSICAL ALBUM

To symbolize participation 5, a musical album was chosen. Participant 5 is a very vibrant person
he prefers to go with the mood, problems may come he always chooses to face it with passion like a
musical album. It's not constantly happy and sad but it changes its mood in different conditions.
Every trial he faces he always decides to linger in it, like a song in an album even if the song is
sad or painful he let it go on finish it and pass unto him, he takes it as another opportunity to better
himself just like as he said in the interview "mga oras na nakaupo lang nagagamit ko sya like sa trabaho
He is aware of the problems and challenges it brings unto him but he chose to stay on it and let it
comfort him like a sad song. Yes it is sad but it is what comforts us the most when we are at the downside
of our life.
