Work Immersion Lived experiences Risk of SMAW student of CNHS
INTRODUCTION
Work Immersion is one of an important subject of a senior high school students
especially to those who had a track which would need to be practiced in order for theme to
improve their skills as a worker specially to those students that want to be a welder who takes
the track called SMAW which requires time to practice, patience in order to improve there
physical capability to perform the work in order to do the work as a welder and a welder you
should be mentally and physically healthy it is very important for a welder in order to focus on
what job is being performed.
A welder should be physically and mentally healthy the importance of being physically
healthy is for how would you handle the works in the shop because usually welding shop’s had
a lot of power tools and heavy equipment that really needs good amount of strength to handle
especially when you are performing or making a big project and also being physically healthy as
a welder it makes theme to easily adopt to the environment or changes compare to there usual
and normal life, as a welder a welder should be mentally healthy in order to focus to the work
that they are performing to avoid accidents and risk that they could be possibly encounter the
examples of this risk are physical, ergonomic, biological, and electrical hazards which is
dangerous to welders while performing the work.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. What are the possible ways to avoid and reduce risk in the workplace?
2. What are the different types of hazard and risk in the workplace?
3. What are the importance of knowing the different ways to a avoid risk and how to
identify each one?
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This study is for the future senior high school students that is/will search for this kind ot
topic/research
HYPOTHESIS
This study aims to give information to the future apprentices of work immersion students
and trainees.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study has benefit the apprentices because this study gives information about how
they would easily identify the different kinds of hazard and risk that would possibly encounter
during the days of immersion
REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES
Work Immersion Lived Experiences Risk of SMAW students
This study aims to identify and know what are the different kinds of risk like physical, biological,
electrical, ergonomic hazards that a welder could possibly encounter in the work shop because
welding works are usually associated with risk like when performing the work like hazardous
and potentially toxic gasses including nitrogen dioxide, ozone, metal fumes including chromium
oxides, hexavalent-chromium, nikel and iron particles, infrared and ultraviolet radiation and
also extreme temperatures in the work place (Little Brown & Company, London). Welding
apprentices or immersionist usually invest in their vocational and technical training specially to
welders where they really needs to practice there skills (International Journal Of Current
Research and Review) 2020. Welding is kind of work that commonly known as the operation of
joining metals where in the fumes are made during the burning of the rod that pollutes the air
where the welders performs the work (Faideh Golbabi, Monireh Kahdem) 2015. Welding works
is one of the key component of numerous manufacturing industries which had the potential of
a physical and chemical health hazard like welding fumes which can potentially affect the
welders lungs (Seyed Akbar Sharifian, Ziba Loukzadeh) 2011. The harmful substances produced
during welding procedure can harm the welder physically and mentally like when performing
the work like electrical shocks that cam physically harm the welder and gasses or smokes during
the welding which can harm the mental health of the worker when the fumes is being inhaled
which makes the welder dizzy and lose focus and the capability to think (Le Shen) 2010.
Welders deal with physical risk everyday at the workplace because normally the workplace of
an welder have heavy and electric powered tools. (Frank R Spellman, Revonna M Bieber) 2011
which often leads potential serious physical damage. The welders work area is an important
part to make the work needed which there is no occupation that is free from the hazard
brought by the workplace (K Awasan, M Makusidi, M Ibrahim, A Sukieman T Magaji, F
Mbarifuh) 2017. Ultraviolet emission from gas tungsten are welding and gas metal, metal and
noise emission during plasma cutting and it also produce metal slug that are very hot which
makes the welders probe to being burned (DL Bartley, Wn Mekinnery Jr, Kr Wirgand ) 1979.
Physical hazard of low hydrogen electrodes for welding had various types of electrodes and
various gasses of dust concentration. Allowable dust concentration range from 2 milligram per
cubic meter ( mg/m3) for dust containing 30 percent or more silicilic-acid, agalmotolite
aluminum, aluminum oxide ( ML Granjon). Apprentices usually don’t had enough capability how
to identify and avoid risk on working hands on and that’s makes apprentices prone to physical,
electrical, biological, and ergonomic hazards while at work or practicing the work in the shop
the common risk are headache, neck pain, stomachache, backache, this occurs when the
welders perform the work wrong posture. The risk in biological risk is when the fumes and UV
radiation and for the electrical risk is electrical risk are burns, muscle paralysis or death. The
chemical risk brings lung damage and various types of cancer including lung, larynx and uninary.
The ergonomic risk are lifting heavy loads, cables, cylinders, metal etc. awkward body posture,
static body positioning, continues force like grip strength.
