1.2.2 Feeder assembly, SP(U)

This drawing shows a Feeder with a removable U-extension. It is often used
when feeding along a conveyer. It is narrowing at the discharge end so no
spill will occur on the sides. On the larger models it is common to have a
thick wear line as counter weight on the back side to keep the balance.

2. Safety precautions

2.3.3 Lifting and moving loads

Hanging load
Never work or stand underneath a crane that is lifting material. Keep
safe distance from hanging load.
WARNING!
Make sure that the capacity of the lifting equipment is adequate and that the
equipment itself is in good working order.
If lifting tackles has to be joined to make up the necessary lengths, make sure
that the joints are secure and have the same lifting capacity as the rest of the
tackle.

NOTE! Always use lifting tackles certified in accordance to local conditions.

Always engage the safety clip on lifting hooks to prevent the tackle from
slipping off.
Use ropes or poles to steady and manoeuvre loads. Do not use hands or feet.
Make sure that the route and the destination are free from obstacles before
moving a suspended load. It must be possible to lower the load to the floor
quickly and safely in an emergency.
When depositing loads, keep the lifting equipment in place until the stability
of the load has been checked.

Risk for cut injuries
Sharp edges can be exposed when working with feeder elements and
surrounding components. Always wear protective gloves.
WARNING!

2.3.5 During operation

Risk for jam injuries
Be careful when working near the feeder spring coils, due to the risk of
getting in contact with nip points.
WARNING!

Risk for crushing

Be careful when moving near the feeder. There are several points
where the operator can pinch body parts between the moving feeder
WARNING! and the surrounding steel structure. This is important especially when
starting and stopping the feeder. The control system of the feeders can
permit start and stop without warning.

CAUTION! Be cautious when clearing material blockages manually with crowbars

etc. Provide suitable equipment for the clearance of blockages, to en-
sure that the operator does not have to work in or close to the feeder
while it is in operation.

3.2 Sound levels

Characteristics Feeder
Sound level, empty running <85 dB(A)
Sound level, during operation 90-100 dB(A)

Measurements conditions
All values are equivalent continues sound levels (Leq) measured during a
period of 60 seconds with an integrating sound level meter. All readings are
taken at a distance of 1 meter from the equipment, and at a height of 1.6
meter above the floor level.
All values are approximate. Sound levels vary depending on whether dust
encapsulation is fitted or not, installation and feeding arrangement, size and
work index of feed material, type of screening elements etc.

4. Transport handling

4.2 Lifting equipment

The feeder body has four lifting eyes where lifting chains/hooks should be
attached when lifting the unit.

Hanging load
Keep clear of suspended loads. Check the gross weight of the feeder
and make sure that the lifting equipment is suitable.
DANGER!
Hanging load
Do not enter lifting straps through the lifting eyes. Sharp edges can
damage the straps.
WARNING!
• Make sure that the lifting chain, hooks and other equipment are in a good
state and attended according to instructions from the manufacturer.
• Make sure that the lifting chain has the correct length for the angle from
the vertical line in which to be used.
• Make sure that the lifting chain, hooks and other equipment have a
sufficient WLL (Working Load Limit) for the weight of the feeder, the
method of lifting and the angle from the vertical line in which to be used.
Follow applicable lifting standard for the equipment used.

4.3 Preparations
Components and any optional equipment not assembled on the feeder at
delivery are normally positioned on the feeder during storage and transport.
Make sure that all loose boxes and equipment are sufficiently strapped
before lifing and loading the feeder.

4. Transport handling

4.4 Securing load

Risk of crushing
Incorrect lifting, loading, fastening and transportation may result in
sliding, tilting and crushing. The carrier is always responsible for
WARNING! following applicable rules, regulations and guidelines concerning
methods, vehicle and equipment used. Instructions in this section are
merely a complement.

Sliding and tilting

Improper securing of the goods may result in sliding and tilting
lengthways as well as sideways. The lashing must be amply
WARNING! dimensioned for 100% of the weight of the goods forwards and 50%
backwards and sideways.

Sufficient Maximum Securing Load

Make sure that the Maximum Securing Load is sufficient for wires and
chains as well as for connections, rigging screws, coupling links etc.
WARNING! that are being used. Also make sure that the lashing holds of the truck
have sufficient Maximum Securing Load for the wires or chains to be
attached.

Coefficient of friction
A static coefficient of friction of 0.2 assumes clean and dry surfaces
free from frost, ice and snow on the loading platform as well as the
WARNING! goods. Be aware that friction can be considerably reduced by damp,
moisture and especially accretion of ice in unfavourable weather.

4.4.1 General requirements

• The lashing must be amply dimensioned for 100% of the weight of the
goods forwards and 50% backwards and sideways.
• Use the lifting eyes marked out in the dimension drawing. Refer to
section 1.2.1 Feeder assembly, SP.
• Attach wires or chains symmetrically from a pair of lifting eyes and
down to the floor level.
• Pre-stress all attached wires or chains.

5. Installation and connection

5.1 General
This section describes installation and connection of a standard feeder,
delivered without any external equipment. Sandvik can also provide
complete feeder stations. Contact Sandvik for more information.

5.1.1 General rules

• Avoid welding in the feeder body, since damaging stresses may lead to
breakdowns.
• Welding currents must never pass through the vibrator motors.
• Never cut holes in the feeder body, due to risk of crack formation.

5.2 Installation preparations

• Any girders or stiffener must not be positioned so that accumulating
material can interfere with the free movement of the feeder body.
• Make sure there will be space enough to perform maintenance and
repairs without removing the feeder from the frame. This applies
especially to:
- adjusting the vibrator motors (refer to the Operator´s manual)
- changing wear parts
• Make sure all support points for the feeder are at the correct hight and
are levelled. Allowed tolerance from niminal values are 5 mm. It is
essential that the screen is horizontal across the width.

5.4 Lifting
Hanging load
Keep clear of suspended loads. Check the gross weight of the screen
and make sure that the lifting equipment is suitable.
DANGER!
Hanging load
Do not enter lifting straps through the lifting eyes on the screen. Sharp
edges can damage the straps.
WARNING!

a) Mount the brackets and turn the feeder around. Be careful with the
vibrators.
CAUTION! Do not place the feeder on the vibrators.

b) Place the hooks of the lifting chains in the four lifting eyes on the feeder.
The lifting eyes are marked out on the Feeder assembly, SP. Refer to
section 1.2.1 Feeder assembly, SP.
c) Check that the load lies against the saddles of the hooks. Never put load
on the tip of a hook.
d) Slowly take up the slack in the lifting chains. Make sure that the hooks
are secure in the lifting eyes. If necesseray, adjust the chains to distribute
the load evenly. Example:

e) Check that the chains can straighten correctly. Never lift with a twisted
chain.
f) Make sure that the place of destination is clear and able to support the
weight before lifting.

5. Installation and connection

NOTE! The feeder must take an upright position according to the dimension drawing
when lifted. Refer to section 3. Drawings and technical data. Adjust the
length of the lifting chains as required.

5.4.1 Getting in place

CAUTION! The feeder must only be supported by the springs or suspensions. No
contact with stationary parts is allowed. The minimum clearance be-
tween stationary and movable parts is: side wards 25 mm, above 50
mm, under 50 mm and along side 25 mm.

Base mounted
Start with mounting the plate to the springs on the frame and place the
springs on the plate. Then place the feeder on the springs and attach.
Suspension mounted
Place the feeder hannging by the feeder unit and thread the rack through the
hole on the unit. Then mount the suspension.

5.4.2 Feeder unit

NOTE! Feeder Unit are optional equipment and can be delivered or ordered from
Sandvik.
The unit is to be placed under a material bin.

Make sure that the Feeder Unit is fastened properly on the bin.
WARNING!
Example; feeder with feeder unit:

5. Installation and connection

5.5 Installation
Risk for serious damage
The vibrator motors must always operate in parallel, and in opposite
direction to one another.
WARNING!

5.5.1 Installation/building in
The vibrating feeder and motors are mounted as one unit which must not be
changed.
The installation inclination is 8° but it is adjustable 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12°.
Feed hoppers, articulated plates and other fixed parts must not prevent the
feeder from operating freely. Rubber seals are to be of soft rubber, which
does not hinder the feeding movement.
NOTE! All four suspension points must have equal weight. When the feeder is tested
you will hear the washer on the suspension make noices if there is no
preasure on it.
With coarser fractions the discharge opening must be 2-3 times the largest
grain size. When there is a large material pressure it is necessary to relieve
the feeder from direct material pressure by means of an inclined discharging
plate in the outlet of the storage bin.

NOTE! Large stones should not be allowed to fall directly onto the bottom of the
feeder. Therefore the feeder should not be run empty.

0-500 = approx. 2 x the lump size

Conditions: B≥K

H/B = 0,8
Examples
In the example below to the left the material pressure is absorbed by the rear
plate at the storage bin outlet and does not burden the feeder. Thies capacity
can be utilized to the full, enbling the size of the feeder and vibrator to be
kept to a minimum. Adjustable outlet hatches allow the flow of material to
the hopper to be adjusted. In the exampel below to the right he feeder
absorbs all the material pressure. This requires larger and heavier feeders
with larger vibrators in order to achieve the required capacity::

5. Installation and connection

5.5.2 Stroke measurement

The amplitude scale is mounted on both sides of the feeder with the sides of
the measurement plate at right angles to the direction of stroke.

Direction
of stroke

The lenght of stroke is read off at the point where the slanting lines visibly
cross one another.
Example: Reading off with an 8 mm stroke

Crossing point

CAUTION! A too high stroke setting can cause damage to the feeder. Always con-
tact Sandvik before increasing the stroke beyond the recommended
setting.
The stroke can be adjusted by changing the settings of the vibrator motors.
Refer to Operator’s manual for vibrator settings.

5. Installation and connection

5.6 Electric power supply

The feeder is electrically powered. Power supply and controls can be
prepared, using the information in section 3.3 Motor power supply data -
electrical vibrator motors
Invicta vibrator motors are manufactured for 50 Hz power frequency in 2, 4
and 6 pole versions. the size of the motors is dependent on the weight and
capacity of the machine. For motor current consumption data refer to section
3.3.1 Current consumption - 50 Hz vibrator.

5.6.1 Function
Vibrator motors are alternating current-induction motors with extended shaft
ends on which centrifugal weights are mounted in pairs. By adjusting the
position of the inner centrifugal weights in relation to the outer ones, the size
of the centrifugal force can be changed and thereby also the stroke of the
feeder. The change is made during a period of rest.
CAUTION! Control circuits must be designed in such a way that if one motor cuts
out, the power supply to the other motor is immediately switched off as
well. With only one motor in operation correct movement of the feeder
is not achieved.
CAUTION! Refer to section 3.4 Use above nominal speed when operating at
speeds above nominal pole speed.

5.6.2 General requirements

• Flexible cable and suitable cable glands must be used to connect the
vibrating motors to the supply junction box.
• 4 core cable to be used for power supply. Flexible conductors type 50/
0.25 (BL30-BL40), 56/0.30 (BL45-BL50) and 80/0.40 (BL60-BL75).
• Separate 2 core cable with flexible conductors type 30/0.25 to be used if/
when connecting the built-in thermistor.
• Each motor must be individually protected against overload by using the
built-in thermistor or by installing a separate motor safety switch.
• Direct on line start/stop is allowed, but using “motor current breaking”
or “reverse flow breaking” can be used to achieve smoother stop. Refer
to circuit diagram examples below.
• Starting via inverter or soft starter is recommended if the screen will be
operated on/off frequently.
• In case of intermittent operation, make sure the motors cannot re-start
until they are entirely stopped (no movement on the unbalance weights).
