BIBLICAL TEXTS
1. "Do not oppress a hired worker who is poor
and needy, whether he is a fellow Israelite or a
foreigner residing in one of your towns. Pay
them their wages each day before sunset,
because they are poor and are counting on it." -
Deuteronomy 24:14-15

fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and
the cries of the harvesters have reached the
ears of the Lord of hosts." - James 5:4
BIBLICAL TEXTS
3. "You shall not withhold the wages of poor and
needy laborers, whether other Israelites or
aliens who reside in your land in one of your
towns." - Deuteronomy 24:14
BIBLICAL TEXTS
These passages make it clear that God expects
employers to treat their workers fairly and to
pay them promptly and honestly. They also
emphasize the importance of treating all
workers with dignity and respect, regardless of
their social status or background.
THE CHURCH
The Church has also spoken out on the issue of unjust labor
practices, particularly through its social teachings. In his
encyclical Rerum Novarum, Pope Leo XIII called for the
protection of workers' rights and the promotion of social
justice in the workplace. More recently, Pope Francis has
emphasized the need for fair wages, safe working conditions,
and respect for workers' dignity in his teachings on social and
economic justice.
Overall, the Bible and the Church both teach that workers
deserve to be treated fairly and with respect, and that
employers have a moral obligation to ensure that their
working conditions are just and humane.
