WRITE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES IN DIRECT SPEECH:

1. The teacher told us to read the book in English.


The teacher ordered us: "Read the book in English."
2. He suggested not arguing again.
He suggested: "Don't argue again".
3. She told us that she was thinking of changing subjects the following year.
She told us: "I am thinking of changing subjects
next year."
4. My parents advised me to tell the truth then.
My parents advised me: "Tell the truth then".
5. He asked me how I was going to pay.
He asked: "How are you going to pay?"
6. They asked us not to smoke in the patient´s room. They ordered us: "Don't smoke in the
patient's room."
7. She told us that she had been to Paris many times.
She told us: "I have been to Paris many times."
8. He wanted to know if it would rain the following day.
He asked: "Will it rain tomorow?"
9. He suggested that we make spaghetti.
He suggested: "Let's make speaguetti".
10. They ordered us to study and not to shout at the library.
They ordered us: "Study and don't shout
11. The teacher enquired whose pencil that was. at the library."
The teacher asked: "Who is the pencil from?"
12. He said that he had retired two years before. He said: "I have retired two years ago".

13. She wanted to know whether I had ever visited Italy. She wanted to know: "Have you ever
visited Italy?"
14. She suggested going to the theatre.
She suggested: "Let's go to the theatre".
15. I told my parents I wouldn´t be late that night.

16. The worker said they were painting the house that day.

17. Carol asked where Jane would be the following Thursday.

18. The nurse told my best friend he couldn´t see me yet.

19. The boss asked them not to smoke in her office.
