Understanding the Parable of Two Sons

The parable of the two sons teaches that those who refuse God but later repent and obey him, like the first son, will enter the kingdom of God before those who say "Yes Lord" but do not obey, like the second son. Jesus affirms this lesson, saying his teachings are absolutely true. The religious leaders questioning Jesus' authority were like the second son, prioritizing appearance over obedience to God's message of the kingdom. This parable reminds Christians to ensure their hearts truly follow God, not just their words.

It's easy to say, "I love God.

" It’s easy to say “Yes, Lord”, it’s easy to say “I’m
a follower of Christ” But it's a whole another thing to really mean it from the
heart, agree po ba kayo.

Jesus said that, Israel in His day honour God with their lips, but their heart is
far from Him. With a tale of 2 sons, napag aaralan natin ngayon, Jesus will
expose the hypocrisy of people, and ituturo niya sa atin yung bagay na
makaka lugod sa kanya. And that is the change within, that leads to
obedience.

The point of the parable is clear. Those who refuse God pero nag repent
meaning nag sisi at tumalikod completely sa kasalanan and obey the Lord,
ay tulad nung first son, that will go into the kingdom. Nangunguna sila
but don’t obey God, like the second son.

Jesus gives his strong affirmation to this lesson whenever he says,

“Truly I say to you.” o kapag sinabi niyang ‘take note!’ or ‘This is absolutely
the truth.’

Just a little background no para maunawaan natin, prior to this scenario may
confrontation na between Jesus and the leaders of Jerusalem, So the story
before this is found in verse 23 to 32. “Jesus now enters the temple again, He
went there to teach and the chief priests and the elders of the people came up
to Him as He was teaching. They said, “By what authority are You doing these
things and who gave You this authority?” [Matthew 21:23] so yung kausap ni
Jesus dito is yung mga chief priest, elders of the church and the people of
[Link] was teaching at the temple.

Now, ok lang sana if they were asking out of a sincere heart to learn, pero
hindi eh. They were not asking out of a sincere heart to learn. They were
looking for some excuse[s] to catch Jesus, to eliminate Him. So instead of
answering the leaders, He countered with a question.

The Pharisees were torned between what to answer, and just to play safe ang
sabi nila “Hindi namin alam” The leaders look very much like the second son,
in that they did not take heed to the message of the kingdom.

Now this parable can be applied on our Christian daily walk, Amen?
