DECONSTRUCTING MEDIA MESSAGES

Media form 1: TV Commercial of Department of Health


-Analysis
1. Where did I get/see/read/access this information?
How was I able to access this form of media? (ACCESS)
I watched a clip from Instagram reels playing this commercial
reminiscing how iconic it was before, and I eventually search for it on Youtube
to recall the whole video.

2. Who created this form of media? (EVALUATE)


There was no revealed specific person who created or directed this
commercial, but it was credited to the Department of Health (DOH)
"Kalusugan Pangkalahatan"

3. What is the message? What is the creator trying to say to me? (ANALYZE)
This commercial attempts to emphasize the importance of family
planning because failure to do so results in a difficult life for the children.
Especially for the eldest daughter, who is still young and must sell
"sampaguita" on the streets for extra money, drop out of school, and care for
most of her younger siblings.

4. What will I do after consuming this form of media? (ACT)


After hearing the message that DOH was attempting to convey, I must
say that at such a young age, I must plan meticulously for my future,
especially if I intend to start a family. I recognize that building the home of my
dreams is a significant accomplishment, but it is also critical to be more
responsible and plan for our future well-being.

5. Will I share this form of media with others? How will I share it with them?
(COMMUNICATE)
Of course, yes. As a young lady, aside from achieving significant
goals in life to be successful, I also have peers and friends who are thinking
about their future family life, and I believe that this media information could

send them an awareness of how important it is to be responsible and steady
self-control to avoid one of our country's problems, which is overpopulation.

6. If I will also create my own form of media, what are my


responsibilities to my audience? How will I create it? (CREATE)
I believe that this type of musical commercial is effective for many
audiences because the lyrics are easy for them to remember and mark in
their heads, and so when I create my form of media, I will try my best to
compose a catchy chant for them to well-recognize my message or the
benefit of my business or product.

Media form 2: Public announcement from the government: “Public schools to teach
Korean in high school”
-Analysis
1. Where did I get/see/read/access this information? How was I able to
access this form of media? (ACCESS)
This report was widely publicized in 2017 because it required Filipino
students to re-adjust to the addition of a Korean language subject in their
school, and because it was breaking news in the Philippines, this
announcement was widely publicized.

2. Who created this form of media? (EVALUATE)


This report was published by a CNN Philippines staff member and
kept their identity unknown, but it was published on CNN Philippines website.

3. What is the message? What is the creator trying to say to me? (ANALYZE)
It was a collaboration between the Korean Embassy and the
Department of Education of the Philippines to improve students' listening,
reading, writing, speaking, and viewing skills in a second foreign language. Its
purpose is to inform everyone that many schools in Metro Manila will be
allowed to incorporate this subject into their curriculum.

4. What will I do after consuming this form of media? (ACT)


When I heard this, I braced myself for the possibility that our school
would be one of the curriculums chosen to include such a lesson.

(COMMUNICATE)
Yes, because most of my friends are interested in learning a new
language, the lesson plan must be serious to keep them on track and seek
improvements.

audience? How will I create it (CREATE)
If I have to distribute information or an announcement to the public, I
will do my best to be clear and precise so that my audience can easily
understand what I have to say. I'll make an effort to keep their attention.

Media form 3: Product advertisement of Selecta Cornetto


-Analysis
1. Where did I get/see/read/access this information? How was I able to
access this form of media? (ACCESS)
Selecta Cornetto pride advertisements were all over social media
platforms because they have been showing support for the LGBTQ+
community for the past month as they celebrate this event. I kept seeing their
ads on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and even YouTube.

2. Who created this form of media? (EVALUATE)


The creator of this idea is unknown but it was advocate by Earl Keh,
Selecta Ice Cream Philippines Lead, to sharemore information and deeper
meanings of this project.

3. What is the message? What is the creator trying to say to me? (ANALYZE)
Behind the attractive poster, it is not just a simple advertisement for
marketing purposes; it is also a message to all individuals who are willing to
participate in the said event to celebrate their confidence in showing who they
truly are. Selecta believes that the LGBTQIA+ community has nothing to fear
from loving and being loved.

4. What will I do after consuming this form of media? (ACT)


As a member of this organization, I am eager to spread the word
about Selecta Cornetto Pride because it will not only satisfy our ice cream
cravings but will also help LGBTQIA+ students with their studies.

Yes, of course. It's a pleasure to inform others about platforms that
support individuals who oppose the stereotypical issues that this country
faces.

6. If I will also create my form of media, what are my responsibilities to my


audience? How will I create it (CREATE)
If I also promote the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, I will think of
something that will entice the majority of people to buy my products. It will
benefit not only me, but anyone else as well.

Media form 4: Social media post from Chel Diokno


-Analysis
1. Where did I get/see/read/access this information? How was I able to
access this form of media? (ACCESS)
I've been following Chel Diokno on Instagram and Facebook since the
election in 2022 because I saw how knowledgeable he is about the law and
people's rights. One post that stuck with me was the video explaining an
individual's right to press charges against someone who is using their identity
without their permission.

2. Who created this form of media? (EVALUATE)


Chel Diokno created and posted it, and his platform in his account is
the awareness and benefit of laws that can be used in everyday life.

3. What is the message? What is the creator trying to say to me? (ANALYZE)
His video's message is to raise awareness about identity theft, which
is the use of other people's identification and details without their explicit
permission. And so as a viewer, we should be extra careful when it comes to
our personal information.

4. What will I do after consuming this form of media? (ACT)


I should keep in mind that this kind of awareness could save me from
someone using my identity to scam other people.

Of course, I spread this information, especially in this generation,
where most people link to social media platforms and provide their details and
information, and when I experience it or someone tells me about it, I already
have a plan to report it to authorities and press against identity theft.

If I spread awareness to people, I will make certain to conduct research and
create a content that will draw their attention and make them aware that this
type of right exists and can be used for our protection.
