Speaker’s Profile
Speaker 1: Dr. Hemang Shah, Director of Engineering
(Startups, Innovation), Qualcomm Technology Licensing,
India
Dr. Hemang Shah is a Director of Engineering with Qualcomm
Technology Licensing in India. Currently, he leads their
engineering engagements in India including the Qualcomm
Design in India Program. Through this program, they've
incubated and mentored 125+ startups working on innovative
products for sectors including healthcare, smart cities, agritech, robotics, and more. He also
serves as an IP mentor for startups the guiding them on their IP strategy.
Dr. Shah has led IP (patent) portfolio projects for development, commercialization, and
litigation objectives. He enjoys the intersection of technology domains and has R&D experience
on projects spanning high-tech and nanotechnology.
Since 2015, Dr. Shah has been active in engaging with the broader ecosystem in India including
startups, academia, government, and the industry. He’s a co-chair of the ASSOCHAM’s National
IPR Council in India and a VP and co-chair of the High Tech Committeeat Licensing Executives
Society. He frequently advises and engages with various government organizations including
DPIIT, MeitY, Startup India, and NITI Aayog.
Dr. Shah holds a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University. He is a certified
Design Thinking expert and enjoys sharing insights on innovation. He has 10+ patents (granted
and pending) and apart from several peer-reviewed publications.
Speaker 2: Dr. S K. Verma, Senior Professor of Biological
Sciences, BITS, Pilani, Pilani Campus

Sanjay Kumar Verma obtained master's degree from Banaras
Hindu University with specialization in cyanobacteria and
applied phycology before completing PhD in the area of
Environmental Biotechnology from the same university. He
worked as research associate at University of Hyderabad in
the area of microbial and molecular genetics. He joined BITS
Pilani in the year 1993 as faculty member in the department of
Biological Sciences. He has held several administrative responsibilities such as Head of the
Department, Chief Warden, and University wide Dean. Currently he is working as Senior

Professor of Biological Sciences and Dean Administration for Pilani campus. Prof Verma has
handled several research projects related to bioremediation and biodegradation of toxic
industrial waste, development of biosensor for environmental application, bioactive
compounds from native microalgae & higher plants from Shekhawati region and biodiesel
production by microalgae, funded by DAE, CSIR, UGC, DST, MoM ABSTCL and WIPO. His major
research interest lies in environmental biotechnology, microbial physiology & genetics. He holds
two Indian patents in this area and another two patents are in pipeline
Speaker 3: Dr. N.L. Panwar, Associate Professor &
Head, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering MPUAT,
Udaipur.
Dr. N. L. Panwar, Associate Professor and Head of the Department
of Renewable Energy Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at
MPUAT, Udaipur. He holds a PhD from the Centre for Energy
Studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and specializes
in energy and energy analyses of thermal systems, energy
efficiency, and management. Dr. Panwar is actively involved in the design and development of
improved cook stoves, biomass gasifiers, pyrolyzers, and solar thermal devices for industrial
and rural applications. He has authored more than 150 papers in international journals,
published 15 books on renewable energy, and holds 8 patents. Dr. Panwar has been recognized
with several awards, including the “Prakritik Urja Puraskar” from the Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy, Government of India for his exceptional book on Alternative Energy
Resources. In addition, he was awarded the “Shrimati Vijay-Usha Sodha Research Award”; from
the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in 2014 and the Rajasthan Energy Conservation Award
in 2018 from the Government of Rajasthan.
