CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND OF THE
ORGANIZATION / TRAINING INDUSTRY
1.3 Introduction of Industrial Training
1.3.1 Introduction
The Electronic Engineering Diploma course is one of the study courses offered
at Polytechnic Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) for three years. The 6th-semester students are
required to undergo Industrial Training (LI). This condition is fixed by the PIS
management with the LI period determined for sixes months. All students have this
period to undergo LI at any firm that chooses by themselves for LI. Overall, LI is learning
in terms of theory and practice that have to do outside of campus. PIS students should
all take this LI seriously because we can't ignore it as trivial. The LI helps to know the
real world of work experience.
Overall, industrial training provides many advantages and benefits to students.
During the training period, students are exposed to a variety of activities in the field of
duties, even though the job is not done entirely by students for security or regular
students were briefed and clear guidance and used enough as a piece of general
knowledge, as well as exposed to the actual working environment and can learn social
skills such as communication and social relationships.
In addition, the students will also know how the situation is in the workplace as
the work will be ready to practice what has learned during the period in Polytechnic.
Exposure is always emphasized during this LI to increase the student's knowledge in the
field skills and technical related to the course. Industrial training can also improve the
skill of cooperation and establish good relationships between fellow employees and
employers.
1.3.2 Objectives of Industrial Training
Industrial training is one of the most outstanding components for students to be
awarded the certificate diploma. In five months, those who want to be getting the
certificate diploma, the student must go to industrial training for a few months. From the
industrial training, the students will also develop skills in work ethics, communication,
management and others. Moreover, this practical training program allows students to
relate theoretical knowledge with its application in the manufacturing industry.
One of the objectives is to expose the students to real-life working experience
and expanding the knowledge in their specific field. Students will further learn about their
real- life profession. They will also experience what they need to do in order to finish their
works. It will help to prepare the students in this way they will easily fit in and fulfilled the
demands of their profession after they finish their course.
Then, to produce trustworthy workers with high responsibility and the ability to
cooperate with other staff. All tasks gave by the supervisor have to complete with a sense
of trustworthiness and full responsibility. This attitude is very important to ensure all
business entrusted to students were carried out flawlessly. Besides, it can train the
students to be honest employees not only to themselves but others as well. Of course,
the student to be punctuality with their time to submit the tasks.
In addition, following the Industrial Training, students can improve their own self-
confidence to improve and think more rationally in the handle which had been given by
the employer. During industrial training, students can assess their ability to work for
employers. The students themselves can infuse the spirit of productivity with the
challenges and obstacles that lie ahead. Hopefully with the Industrial Training which is
able to run to enhance the knowledge of students to enable them to contribute more
effectively towards national development in the future and to get a job that suits them
according to the skills they have learned.
In conclusion, the purpose of industrial training is to have an opportunity to apply
all knowledge or theories related to the field taken during the course of industrial training
with this experience of real-life work.
1.3.3 Importance of Industrial Training
The training is an opportunity for polytechnic students to prepare themselves before the
future real-work life and the work or task challenges that will follow. In addition, students
also have the opportunity to gain experience that cannot be in college. With the Industrial
Training many useful and valuable experience gained as supply before step in the work
life. It also can build self-confidence with the experiences and knowledge that gain during
industrial training. So, it is quite easy and convenient to carry out the work.
First of all, industrial training produces skilful and ready employees when they
take their first step into the working world. This is because by involving in certain
industrial training at the organization given to them, the student will be more skilful in
carrying out a job after they were explained on how to do the job by a more experienced
co-worker. Students who went through industrial training will be more mature in
conducting the work given to them. After the practical lessons, students will also be more
knowledgeable and understand matters related to their field of study.
This exercise can improve the ability of students to work hard and to work with
dedication and show a mature attitude toward the employer. At the same time, industrial
training can also encourage a student’s leadership ability and responsibility to perform
the tasks given by a supervisor. Besides that, the student will be more disciplined to
follow the rules and regulations of the firm when conducting industrial training. They will
be trained well for proper schedule planning and time management through industrial
training. This situation will be independent of students. Eventually, through this industrial
training, students can test their stamina and thinking abilities when facing a decision-
making situation and facing daily tasks given by their supervisor. Industrial Training is a
great and invaluable experience for industrial training students.
In conclusion, industrial training is an outstanding gain to all industrial training
students in contributing help to the development of the nation. Being a student, one can
acquire Industrial experiences and at the same time experience themselves the real-life
working environment at the Industrial training site. This opportunity also enables them to
further expand their knowledge while seizing the profession's ethical values as the basis
for their career in the future. Therefore, students must prepare themselves to become a
valuable asset to the esteemed organization or industry.

installation steps, cables connections and the circuit connection more
cleary. He also explain about the ‘DC convert to AC’.
The inverter circuit then outputs alternating current with varying
voltage and frequency. The DC/AC conversion mechanism switches
power transistors such as "IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor)" and
changes the ON/OFF intervals to create pulse waves with different
widths. It then combines them into a pseudo sine wave. This is called
“Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)”.

and technical aspects is a very meaningful knowledge to me to prepare myself before
stepping into the real work environment in the future days.
I hope with the implication of Industrial Training, there will be no more non-typical
feelings when the students started working after they finished their course later. The staff
at MHM are very helpful and friendly. They gave me a lot of exposure to the terms of
reference and procedures related to the process of my work. Other than that, the
exposure to visiting sites, meeting atmospheres, and so on also gives useful knowledge
to me. The exposure that was given to me at this company can provide a picture of a
real-life working environment, and the task, and responsibilities that would be carried by
some people on the field.
Lastly, the involvement of the student in industrial training like this can prove and
further strengthen of student's identity in undergoing training in a technical field, apart
from that, the format report that needs to be done by students after undergoing industrial
training also can help to improve each of the students in preparing the technical report,
compact and in a right order that can be constructed as an important knowledge when
they face a real-work life situation later. This is very suitable for the Polytechnic objective
which is to produce a workforce that is high in quality and partially professional in this
country.
4.2 Recommendation
On this moment I want to give a little suggestion and review to all who get
included during my internship. These comments and recommendations are also for
Polytechnic students who get involved in this internship. I hope my recommendations
will be considered and can help students Polytechnic and MHM also in the future.
During my internship, I took quite a long time to get to work at Mun Hean
Malaysia. I recommend to MHM to providing hostel for students during their internship.
The existence of a hostel can make it easier for students to go to an internship place and
can reduce the cost of transportation. Other than that, I hope MHM will improve their
safety issue in the workshop for make sure all worker wears their safety boots to avoid
injury while performing work.
In addition to this, Polytechnic its necessary to make sure to the student to do
initial preparation before going to industrial training. For example, student must be
prepared to bring their own test pen and other simple tools for repairing medical
equipment. Moreover, Polytechnic needs to provide more initial exposure related to
medical equipment to students so that students more ready during their internship.
I also suggest to Polytechnic to make sure students to choose the right
organization so that they achieve the objective of internship. Other than that, I suggest
to students for choose their internship place as close as they can with house for avoid
the costing accommodation and transportation during the internship.
Lastly, student needs to maintain ethics as practical student while undergoing the
internship to maintain the image of the Polytechnic. Student also needs to be responsible
and loyal during the internship. Student also need to interest throughout internship to
gain knowledge during the internship. Student also need to prepare being more friendly
and not shy for asking if get any questions so that it is easy to acquire knowledge. As a
student we also do not have to give up if faced with the difficulties and always believe
that there is various way of solutions to solve all problems.
