Lesson Sequence
Opening: Start by…
- Playing Game: “Witch Witch”
- Song is in 6/8, gets the students moving
Learning Activities (identify assessment):
- Sing through “Witch Witch” with students tapping the beat [2 minutes]
- Play two rounds of “Witch Witch” [3 minutes]
- Listen to Somebody to Love [2 minutes]
- Introduce “Ta ki da” syllables with four fingers [2 minutes]
- Sing through different rhythms with background music [2 minutes]
- Hand out instruments [2 minutes]
- Play Rhythms on percussion instruments [3 minutes]
- Improv [2 minutes]
- Teach ‘Chop Chop Chippity Chop” [3 minutes]
- Hand out white boards [2 minutes]
- Write out “Chop Chop Chippity Chop” [5 minutes]
- Write out their own their own four measures using ta ki da on a staff [5 minutes]
- Share with a partner, then optional share with the class (students can play or sing their
compositions) [5 minutes]
