Standard practices reference to be followed in preparation of MCQ’s:
1) Expand all Abbreviations.
2) Perform ‘grammar’ and ‘spell’ check, AVOID absolute terms, such as ‘always’ and ‘never’.
3) AVOID double negatives in the framing of the stem of the MCQ’s.
4) If the word ‘EXCEPT’ has been used in the framing of the stem it must be in capitals.
5) Avoid “fill in the blanks” in the framing of the MCQ’s.
6) Please mention what the numbers denote (unit to be specified) eg. 50:50 years or 50:50 kgs.
Ensure that numeric options are used in a logical and single format (either as single terms or as
ranges) (eg.
7) Kindly AVOID options such as “ALL OF THE ABOVE” or “NONE OF THE ABOVE”.
8) Avoid repeating a word mentioned in the stem as well as in all the options.
9) Make sure options are homogenous and are of similar length.
10) Ensure that MCQ’s are assessing learning outcomes or important concepts.
