ACTIVITIES AFTER READING THE BOOK
1. The Time Traveller says, ‘There is no intelligence where there is no change and no
need of change?’ What does he mean? Do you agree with him? Why/why not? Work
in pairs and discuss these questions.
Is expressing the idea that intelligence develops in response to the need to adapt
and evolve in a changing environment. In other words, intelligence arises from the
ability to face challenges and adjust to new circumstances.
Personally, we agree with this statement. Intelligence, to a large extent, manifests
itself through problem solving and adaptation to changing situations. The need for
change and the ability to learn and evolve are fundamental to the development of
intelligence. Without change or challenge, intelligence may stagnate or not have the
opportunity to flourish.
2. You are the Time Traveller. What lessons have you learnt about your journey to the
Land of the Eloi? Write about it for a newspaper.
As Time Travelers, our journey to the Land of the Eloi has been eye-opening. In our
exploration, we learned fundamental lessons about the evolution of humanity and the
danger of complacency. The Eloi, with their idle lifestyle and lack of worries, seem an
example of an ideal society. However, their decadence and dependence on the
Morlocks as a result of their apathy have taught us that extreme comfort can be
detrimental. We also understood the importance of struggle and challenge in
people's lives, as it is these obstacles that foster growth and survival. Ultimately, our
journey to the Land of the Eloi has made us reflect on human nature and the need to
balance comfort with effort in order to evolve and thrive as a society.
